I feel very fortunate maddiemay, reservations are at my library are now free. They went up to .50p each years ago so I had to stop reserving books, eventually I quit using the library altogether. Now that I can get nearly any book I want, I will use it more often, and it's nice to feel I'm supporting them as so many of the little libraries around the county are closing down. I had felt guilty about not making the effort to go anymore.
I managed a big tidy up today, as well as getting several of the smaller jobs done. My list doesn't seem to be getting shorter, even though I am crossing loads off! One of the jobs I did today has been bothering me for months so I was very pleased to finally have it finished. I had to buy a couple of bits to get on with other jobs on the list, so I popped out and got them ready for getting those jobs crossed off in the next few days.
I didn't have time for a nap so spent the afternoon running on caffeine. I'm exhausted now so am planning on having a fairly early night. It's so nice to walk through a clean house and not trip over school bags, stray shoes, skateboards, etc. The aches and pains are gone for the moment thanks to paracetamol, but keeping on the move helps too. If I sit down for a break, getting up again is painful. Winter always makes me feel very old...0 -
I'm rubbish with libraries - love the idea and grew up using them regularly, but I ALWAYS end up paying fines. For some people, they're brilliant, but for me, not so much. My alternative is charity shop books (50p a paperback at the hospice shop) which then either go back there or get passed on to my Mum (After which SHE passes them back there!)
Misty there is little more annoying than finding yourself in a never ending round of clearing up after other people. Can you take to piling other people's stuff that they have left about onto their beds so they have to move it before they can get in to sleep? I took to doing that with OH's stuff and he's so much better these days.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I hate that re the cleaning i am like that with my oh, its constant picking up after her mess.
re the aches and pains have you tried anything alternative remedy wise for it. Flaxseed oil capsules and turmeric capsules may help.debts 16550

I've heard about turmeric helping with pain, I should really look into getting some. I've not heard about flaxseed though so will take a look, thank you Huskyrunner for the recommendations. Did you buy your guitar?
EssexH I do eventually pile things on the children's beds, who then dump it on the floor until their quarterly room-tidy up. I don't care anymore because I can close the door and if they want to bring their friends around and embarrass themselves, so be it. Unfortunately hub is one of the worst offenders, I pile his stuff up and he moves it just enough out of the way so he can get around it. My half of the bedroom is lovely and neat while his is a bomb site, which does not make for a relaxing place to rest.
I'm still working away on my list and feeling very pleased with the progress. One thing I have learned is that I now must carefully examine anything that has the possibility of being brought home BEFORE it comes through the door! If there is no room for it, no area where I can make room, or something it can replace, then it is not coming in the house. I have lived in an unorganised mess for decades and now that it's nearly gone, I have no intention of letting it happen again. I have looked longingly at a lovely coffee maker in the charity shop several times but there is no counter space to keep one and my mother's old peculator still does the job on the hob without the storage problem.
I donated a large pile of cookbooks that Ziffit wouldn't take to the charity shop this afternoon, and my shelf is still full. I am going to keep going over them to see if I really need to keep them - it's hard because some of them are sentimental (Grandma's old Mrs Beeton, which will stay) but I usually look up recipes on the internet now. I might get some new ideas for the non-existent meal plan while going through them.
I'm so looking forward to having a clean tidy house for Christmas - aside from the bedroom mess (which I am not touching) the house should be completely decluttered in another week or so, just in time to put up the decorations. It's going to be lovely to have the relatives over and not have to apologise about the mess, and have time to cook mince pies and Christmassy cakes and biscuits in the clean organised kitchen.0 -

Hi Misty
Just quickly catching up as I've been a little absent lately! Saw your discussion about the library. I was just talking to Mum today about the large central library in her home town and it seems it is to be knocked down. I was so sad when I heard that. I loved going to the library and spent many an afternoon after college there. I might have to make a final visit (haven't been there for over 25 years) but then I might be sad at how it has no doubt changed over time.
I might have to look into turmeric myself! My knees are playing up although not from any sports related injury! The closest I came to sports today was donning a pair of sports socks! Only trouble was half way through the day I realised one said addid@s and the other r33bok!! So I've been doubly sporty today :rotfl:

Hi there....just thought I'd drop in and show my face as I've been reading your diary and loving all the chat about lists...:)
I love lists and notebooks...and pens, I have so many! My excuse is that I work in a school so I need them:p I do have a bullet journal that I started a few months ago - though I've neglected it and got out of the habit of using it. I must get back to it and keep myself organised.
Just off to subscribe to your diary! xI really need to sort out a new signature!0 -
Thanks everyone and welcome, Pixiechick! I've watched some videos on bullet journals but they seemed a bit complicated. I have made up my own simplified form to use in my filofax - it is really helping me keep on top of things.
I have far too many notebooks and pens myself, they seem to be one thing I can't declutter as I know they will be useful at some point. I haven't bought any this year and probably still have about 10 years worth of supplies. I have to keep myself out of places like WHSmiths for fear of coming home with the whole notebook aisle0 -
I'm still slogging along. I have a biggish job scheduled for tomorrow and am looking forward to having it finished - like the first big job, it will make my life and further jobs much easier. It is unlikely to be finished quicker than expected, just due to the nature of the job but I am ready to tackle it and get it crossed off the list.
I'm still behind on sorting the budget and meal plan, but my idea of just not spending is working out well.I now have a £100 in my bank account that is the start of an emergency fund. I am feeling really pleased and very protective of the money - I haven't had any kind of buffer before and am determined that it will not be frittered away. I'm going to transfer it over to my savings and make sure it doesn't get touched unless it is a true emergency.

Hi Misty
Well done on the buffer fund! Mine is non-existent and probably will be for quite a while!
All these talk of bullet journals led me to google them - I WANT ONE! Perhaps Santa will be kind. In fact what I have found to be the best way to ensure I get what I want for Christmas is just to buy it myself and then pass it over. I probably will have to wrap it too though. The OH's idea of wrapping is to use the first thing that comes to hand....I've had Christmas paper at birthdays, brown paper at Christmas (this was before it was trendy!). I'm waiting for the day when the foil and cellophane get used!:rotfl:
I love pens too - who doesn't? My favourite ones are the B1c ones with four interchangeable nibs. In fact two years ago I bought a box full of them off Am@zon and I am still using them. Then last year I saw a large B1c shaped pen holder, full of pens! I just had to have it.:D
I hope you achieve what you are planning to do tomorrow Misty without too much effort! You will have to let us know how you got on.
Hope you have a lovely evening xxLBM Jul 16 £26,823.83, Nov 16 £27,961.98, Dec 16 £26,977.66, Jan 17 £26,884.76
