I have always had difficulty making friends and if I did have them, they were always people in need who didn't seem to want anything other than what I could give them. That affected my confidence more than having no 'friends' at all.

However, I'd also suggest stop running around after your friend, and see what happens. No need to go further than you need to.., I suspect if you 'have it out with her' she'll just get tremendously defensive. Just say something important has come up and you can't be her bridesmaid and let her fade out of your life.
