  • Totally agree ref the This Works Sleep Spray. Used it twice now, before I go to sleep and by the time my head hits the pillow, I can't smell anything...
The Molton Brown sleep spray is sooooo much better! Unfortunately I don't have any of this left and won't be buying any either!

Another UU : last of my face masks (yay, graduation) - Superdrug Brightening sheet mask. Really don't like sheet masks. Any recommendations for a good high street mask?

Have repaintied my nails. They look very festive.

Have collected my Feel unique advent calendar from post office.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Ninth Anniversary 1,000 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
I think I'm going to join for November, I've followed the past couple of threads. I really need to stop wasting money on stuff I don't need.

    First UUs of the month:
First Aid Beauty Cleanser sample - WIB? No. Smelt a bit weird to me, though it did make my face feel a bit smoother. I have a similar style cleanser in my stash to use as well.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream sample - WIB? Possibly. My face has been a bit dry lately, and this has helped, but it might cause me to break out in the future.

generally- most of the time repairs are a lick of paint and naught else. you will be able to smell damp, is there any mould, is there a layer of water that does not seem to evaporate?
some times the extentions have poor damp course on the floor or a rubbish level of insulation.

a lot of the time a dehumidifier will remove damp feeling- excess water and makes it easier to heat the rooms. what it will cost you on electricity will be saved of the heating. a dehumidifier is a great investment.

you can check for draughts by using either a candle and seeing where it flickers or feeling for the cold air. i use loads of warm (interlined) curtins and door snake insulators. check around the doors, windows (nightmare if single glazed) and vents.

i once lived in a flat that was so cold i had to layer on the clothes when i came home from work. It was a beautiful historical flat but from now on i only choose highly insulated houses. When i eventually get to buy a house, I will retro fit every bit of insulation and get it to scandivan passive house standard

Lynseydee - lots of good advice already. Check your loft for insulation, feel for draughts around windows (frames and openers), check around skirting boards, check door frame for draught.

Another idea for cold homes is to place an old duvet or a blanket, fleece one will be fine on top of mattress under bottom sheet, it is an old camping trick and really helps keep you cozy in bed, wheat bags are great too, as they keep some of your body heat and don't go cold like a hot water bottle

Thank you for everyone's comments. That's what I like about this thread, lots of tips and advice for friends who have never met :)

Savingfortomorrow - when I first moved in both my mum and sister said there was a smell when you walked in through the front door but I've never smelt anything. My mum hasn't commented lately but that might be because I have my oil burner going most days.

Dolly - unfortunately I've been told I'm not allowed in the loft, not told why and didn't ask, just I couldn't use the loft to put stuff in. I'll go round all the places you mentioned and see if I can feel any drafts. The other morning when I went into my bathroom it felt really cold despite the heating being on full and the door closed. Think it might be because it's a room sticking out the back of the house on the ground floor.

Maddiemay - thanks for the tips. Fortunately I'm ok once I'm in bed and managed to warm myself up, it's just the whole getting undressed and nightie on before getting into bed that's the problem.

I am also looking to move to another property but as I rely on HB to help pay part of the rent I'm finding it difficult to find an agent or landlord who will take me on.

Thanks for this months thread Mrsmoneypenny and welcome SophieLoiu.
I am in again this month, a few UU to report:

Aqaous cream- i was told to try this for my eczema but if anything it made it worse and the smell wasn't very nice, WNBA
Nivea watermelon lip balm- this was a freebie last year with an order in Boots, this balm smelt heavenly but it didn't help with my dry cracked lips. WNBA

A few INS so far this month:
Bourjois blur the lines concealer- I cant find a natural concealer that works, this one works really well to cover my dark circles and it doesn't cause any allergic reactions.
Also IN, LE tint in bare (HG), two PHB natural cosmetics lipstick balms, and a free natural lip plumper.

I would avoid Aqueous cream like the plague if you have eczema, it has SLS in it so it can be used as a soap subsitute and this thins the skin which is the last thing eczema needs. It is however great for feet.

VALM - I like the Body Shop Blue Corn 3 in 1 Mask, it is very brightening and you get a ton of uses out of the tub.

    Welcome sstevo19.

    I have a uu

Avon Herve Leger Body Lotion - I bought this for 89p from the reps clearance brochure and wish I had got more. It smells amazing and is lovely to use too, both this and the matching perfume have long been discontinued.

    UU
Avon Skin So Soft Original Bath Oil
    Avon Deluxe Perfume Travel Size
    M&S Garden

Confession, I have put in an Avon Order which will increase this but will not worry about it until comes!!

i know the aqueous cream suits some people but it is rather troublesome for a lot of people. It is loaded with sls and causes a lot of irration. you might find sls free products could suit you more.

Try soaking in oats. You basically put some oats in some old tights or something similar and put it in the bath. It's supposed to help soften the skin and is good for things like eczema.
