We're such a dynamic, influential nation in so many ways we take for granted, it was simply obvious to me that the more autonomy we have, the greater will be the positive impact we can make on the world and fir ourselves.

I do recognise change induces anxiety, but being anxious and concerned also causes us to raise our game.

Not for a moment did I believe European citizens will harm thier trade, ergo, trade will go on un hampered

    A very exciting time

You know one of the things I love about family guy is that there are so many references to things I don't get, and then something will come along and I'll realise I know it from Family Guy :D

I wouldn't change my vote. I think the bs came from both sides but to say the warnings of remain have been debunked surely misses the point that we have not even started to leave yet.

Not really. We were told the disaster would be instant. I'm not seeing it.

It is exactly like what happened in 1992 when we were told that if the UK dropped out of the ERM economic disaster would follow. Instead, economic recovery followed more or less instantly.

The people saying we had to stay in the ERM, the people saying we had to join the euro and the people saying we had to Remain were, by and large, all the same people

What I do think will happen is that a sort of "stealth Brejoiner" faction will emerge which will try to subvert Brexit. Having failed to win the referendum the usual suspects will certainly try to thwart it.
  • Humanity evolves, humanity moves around the planet in search of conditions best suited to progress and prosperity, and humanity thrives precisely because of those attributes.

The trouble with this rather Panglossian view of the world is that the "conditions best suited to progress and prosperity" didn't just arise spontaneously through dumb luck. They were created, maintained and funded by cultures diametrically opposed to that of the people who now want to "move around the planet" looking for them, and they only exist because they have hitherto kept the latter out.
  • if you can't speak the language they'll find it near impossible to find a job paying taxes.

It was always the case when I was younger and occasionally signed on the dole that you got nothing if you were not actively seeking and available for any work offered.

I do not see how someone who doesn't speak the language can possibly qualify for benefits because if you don't speak English you're constructively unemployable. It might be that you don't need English to work in a Kosovan-run hand car wash, but limiting your employment to opportunities in the Kosovan-run hand car wash industry is an unreasonable limitation that should deny you any benefits.

    t it.

Not as I remember it, it was generally felt that the UK joined the ERM at unsustainably high rate, so exit was inevitable. I am not sure what would have happened if we had joined at a lower rate.

I voted Leave and i'm still very happy with my decision.

I still think the economy will suffer greatly in the short term because of Brexit even though it is doing the opposite to what people expected at the moment.

However, my reasons for voting Brexit weren't related to economics.

I voted Brexit simply because I didn't want the EU imposing laws and regulations on us without us having any option but to accept them.

I vote for who rules the UK during the general election and it's those legally elected representatives who should be making the decisions affecting us, not a group of foreigners I didn't elect imposing things on us from Brussels
  • I voted Leave (not expecting it would win) and would do so again. The following have cemented my decision:

-the petulant actions of EU leaders following the result
-various whining and hand-wringing from tiresome lefty columnists
-the utter lack of will and ability of France in dealing with Calais
-Tony Blair doing his Stern Face and telling the country they've been very naughty indeed

Presumably Cameron only authorised a referendum to shut up certain members of his party, totally confident he would win. It was this arrogance that partly fuelled the Leave vote IMO. It was also very irresponsible not to have any sort of Plan B in place with the civil service just in case of a Leave victory.
