Has anyone changed their mind about Brexit?

It says a lot about their old lifestyle if these young males would rather walk across Europe and spend years living in a squalid slum than stay at home.
Yes, it says they couldn't be bothered to stay and fight and work to save and re-build their countries when they could come here for free housing and healthcare. We've got the dregs, not the creme de la creme.
The young men are the tip of the iceberg. Guess who's coming next.0 -

Glad to see you'd stay here no matter what.
You're assuming a lot of things about these people. I honestly don't know what I'd do in their position.0 -

Humanity evolves, humanity moves around the planet in search of conditions best suited to progress and prosperity, and humanity thrives precisely because of those attributes.
So to try and pick a random point in time - a mere blink of an eye in evolutionary terms - and to pretend that these cultures, and these borders, and these nation states, are now forever set in stone and can never change is frankly absurd.
You're conveniently ignoring the change in migration patterns since the invention of the welfare state.
It's not a racist rant to want people to pay in before they take out. And neither is it racist to assume that if they can't speak the language they'll find it near impossible to find a job paying taxes.0 -
That's for us to know and you to find out
OK so now I am equally excited and worried.0 -
This is not a racist rant and I hope no one feels it is a bandwagon to jump on.
The Britsh as well as most every European nation had a period where we spread overseas predominantly seeking a better life.
It is neither cowardice nor a character flaw to see greener grass and head for it.
But those times are not now and the people aren't heading off to relatively empty lands to build a new world .
The consequences now are more likely to cause conflicts and combined with a new radicalised Islam that combined with demographics has created a level of mistrust I can not remember being around even thirty years ago.
I have a wife who is not British and two mixed race children . I have lived overseas as an economic migrant for six years before returning to the UK.
Hamish might try in his puerile way to insult my character with his accusations. But seeing changes and declaring my concerns is as far I am aware what is called being real .0 -
I believe people should have freedom to seek a better life, including and specifically immigrants coming to the UK.
I am sorry but where does it end?
It is all very well to say that people should have the freedom to come to the UK but how are our public services meant to cope with the influx of people?
How can it be right that people can come to the UK and be given social housing when there are people who have been on the waiting list for years?
I am sorry but I just cannot agree with your idealistic view point.0 -

Perhaps so. There wasn't a welfare state nor the NHS though. Life was tough. Discrimination went on for decades. There wasn't any political correctness. Today's pass the problem to someone else isn't a solution.0 -

You and your random points of time ..Lets talk about now and the reality that The European model and especially the new found ability of states to send their problems across an unchecked border ..No matter how noble in thought, is a huge liability in the world we live in today.
There is absolutely zero chance of Hamish's David Attenborough type spiel coming to pass.
Humans have been fighting over bits of land ever since they realised what you could do with a bit of land.
A mere 1 or 2 million migrants trekking across Europe have caused conflicts between internal European states; media to go into meltdown; rises in far right groups; the exposing of the impotency of the very EU institution itself.
Now imagine 100 million trying to make this passage. It would be akin to a script from the most vivid Danny Boyle disaster movie.
Barely a week goes by without Hamish reminding us that we need to build more houses. And yet, we barely manage enough to sustain the current population.
Letting in a few dozen from Calais now and then allows Lily Allen bragging rights at the next music awards show....and that's it.0 -
I also wonder, when Greece that is already struggling is having pressure put on to register and deal with the massive influx of migrants they are coping with why no-one (from Brussels etc) has put any pressure on France to deal with the Calais issue well before now.
France is a safe country. If its government feels the migrants should not be in France then they should return them from whence they came, as Greece is being instructed to return migrants to Turkey.0 -

Migrants in Calais. Is akin to the UK having a problem with migrants in Fishguard attempting to get to Eire. Doesn't effect the residents on a daily basis. The French no doubt believes the UK should take them.0
