carbootcrazy wrote: »Well done. Good to have your OH onboard with your moneysaving/making:T
My OH costs me money:mad:. I had an email from BT saying my monthly DD would be going up because of extra usage. I have unlimited broadband and unlimited landline phone calls so I was gobsmacked:eek:. When I checked my itemised bill online it was obvious that OH had been phoning 087 numbers frequently:eek:. No, they're not that kind of numbers if that's what you're thinking:rotfl:. They were just enquiries/complaints etc to reputable companies that he's bought stuff from. He is totally computer/mobile phone illiterate and often buys stuff from the colour supplements of Daily Mail and catalogues that he gets through the post. The orders he places(always made by landline) are Freephone but these companies have expensive 087 numbers for customer service/complaints and they aren't covered in my free calls package:. OH doesn't seem to grasp that I can usually find an alternative 'free' number online if he could be bothered to ask, he justs phones the 087 ones as he thinks they are 'free' too with my phone package. It's like dealing with a child sometimes:eek:
Anyway I had a meltdown the other day:o and told him he'd cost me an unnecessary total of £11.35 in the past 3 months. He gave me a £20 note (well, more like flung it on the table) and told me to keep the change. Am going to add the money I made on the deal (£8.65) to my challenge total.
Aww I really feel for you!! I know how frustrating it can be when you dont get the support from OH's. I have some success with my OH but then he goes and messes it all up again e.g just now we were discussing what to have for lunch tomorrow. The money for the groceries has all been used this week and we have chicken, sausages and minced beef in the freezer but he "fancies" roast beef (which we would have to go and buy) And then he wonders why we havent got enough saved towards our holiday??Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... hugs to you abd CBC. mine says this money saving coupons is really not worth it. says he who earns more than me and when I am coming to the end of the month every coupon helps. plus he don't do food shopping.
set your OH a challenge. tell him he Xan have roast beef if he can source a way to pay for it ie asda price guarantee receipt or sainsburys nectar points or Morrisons points etc0 -

We're kindred spirits, KM:beer:
I wouldn't normally have cared so much about the money he costs me (after all, what's £11.35 in the general scheme of things?)but when every penny is budgeted for it throws everything out of kilter.:o
I should make it clear here that the massive debts that I racked up were totally my debts not his. It's a long story and we have a rather peculiar financial set-up:o. For various reasons I've made sure he knows nothing about them (and I intend it to stay that way;)). I'm paying them off with my own money not his. It's been a massive strain trying to cope with the payment of these debts on a DMP without him knowing a thing about it or noticing anything different:(. I've got away with it so far:j and have paid off over half of the £56,000+ debt that I started with in 2013. Still have 3 more years to go but I can do it if he doesn't scupper my plans.
Sorry, didn't mean to say all this. I got a bit carried away:o. It's good to get things off your chest though isn't it?
Have a good day, all. I hope Storm Angus isn't bothering you too much:beer:0 -
It's great you have shared CBC. it keeps this thread real and people reading realise we aren't all fantastic money makers cruising through life

I don't think it matters how much money someone earns. I know for some people, coupons etc. are more important as funds are tight but I think it's more about your way of thinking.
I used to have a housemate who didn't have 2 pennies to rub together for most of the month, when he received money he spent it like water and never planned ahead.
He always said my coupon collecting and other money saving was a waste of time. One evening he had no money and no food. I told him to go around his bedroom and pick up all the small coins he just left laying around. We took them to the supermarket and changed them in the coin star... he was amazed to have £10.
But despite this, he then went and spent the £10 on best quality chicken breasts, and Old El Passo fajita kit and a packet of cookies. I was amazed at his choice of food, given that he had 4 days to go to payday!
He also refused to use a Clubcard and always laughed at me when I took his receipts out of the bag to have the points added to my card. He stopped laughing when it was his birthday and I was able to pay for a meal for both of us plus both girlfriends using the points. Otherwise he would have spent his birthday at home eating toast made with my stale bread! :rotfl:
We've not lived together for about 10 years but we're still very good friends and he's still not changed. Although he is coming to see me in a few weeks, then going on to see a relative who lives about an hour from me. He rang me to ask if I could try to book his train tickets for him as he'd "tried but they cost a fortune and you're always good at getting things cheap", so he must be learning slowly!
And on the subject of the thread... £5 voucher from my Morrisons More card popped out yesterday0 -

Thanks, Aesop. I knew you'd understand:A
Forgot to say (most important bit too:o) that this challenge has been an absolute lifeline to me. Thanks to the brilliant people who make it what it is and the advice and encouragement that is always available I've found the whole debt-slaying journey so much easier to cope with:T.
Having a little extra coming in has made the past couple of years that I've been here (can't remember when I joined, it seems like I've known you forever) not only easier but fun too:j.
Thank you all:kisses3::A:beer:0 -

Carbootcrazy!!!! Thanks for sharing your story!! You have done amazingly well paying off so much of your debt and secretly too!!
That must put you under huge pressure!!
Never feel guilty for sharing problems on here! It makes us all more human.
I am in a different position in that we have no debts (we did about ten years ago and I vowed one we had paid everything off, it would never happen again)
Its more the strain for me keeping OH on the straight and narrow as he is much more materialistic than me.
He sees other people getting new cars and thinks we should have one. Err No!!
The parcels with new shirts arrive weekly from next which I insist he pays hisself out of his allownace.
He is better than he once was........in fact he gets excited when we receive a wad of money off vouchers for supermarkets. :rotfl: I used to have to really nag him to use vouchers and loyalty cards if he did the shopping. Think he thought it was degrading but he does it without question now.
I was doing the shopandscan thing the other day after our big shop and he showed some interest, asking what we will get out of it.
Explaining that I will order bog rolls off amazon with all the gift vouchers I will now be getting and other household stuff which will save further on the shopping funds seemed to persuede him its a good thing.
