Lynne, we haven't seen much of you recently (says she who has been a bit AWOL recently:o. Making up for it today though).
I hope you have recovered 100% from your eye procedure and that all your devices are fully functioning now, especially your laptop:beer:0 -
£10 in amazon vouchers for me today and won a £30 M&S gift voucher in the Church Christmas draw yesterday.
Well done:T. Always good to win something nice whilst supporting a good cause:).
I seem to have been bombarded with books of raffle tickets from all sorts of sources this past week:eek:. Not just for my own use (although I usually end up buying the lot myself though I can ill afford to:o) but to sell to others. I feel guilty asking people to buy, they get so many requests for money at this time of year:( but I feel even more guilty if I don't sell/return the tickets.0 -

I know the feeling CBC. I bought all of the books I was given to sell. It was only £5 worth so not too bad but I have also had to buy £10 worth for the Scout Christmas draw. As I am a Beaver leader I have to show willing. I could ask friends and family but I know things are tight at this time of year.Jan £10 a day £326.75/£3100 -
I loathe those blooming raffle books and point blank refuse to get involved when anyone mentions it. I'll make a donation by all means, but don't try to guilt me by asking me to sell the things! ARGH!
I expect Small Sprog will soon cotton on to beavers so I shall no doubt fall out with some poor leader who won't really be at fault as I loathe the pressure on the kids to sell more than their peers. Same with sponsoring etc... it's makes me insanely cross! Especially when they reward the one with the biggest donations or sales... They're kids! We spend untold time trying to stop them pestering us for stuff and now you want us to encourage them to pester people to buy raffle tickets?? Why train them with the skills we least want to encourage *cry*DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

carbootcrazy wrote: »I empathise with you over the vet bills. I seemed to spend a small fortune at the end of last year on my cat:eek:. The worst of it was that I'd had Pet Insurance for him since he was 6 months old (and only made one claim in 8 years and that wasn't a mega one). I found most of the conditions/injuries I've had to claim for since that one were not even covered by the policy (dental being one of them that has cost me a lot:eek:). Or after the excess was deducted were not worth claiming for as I knew my premiums would go up to balance it out;). I cancelled the insurance and am now 'building in' some extra to my emergency fund (largely fed by what I make on this challenge:j) to cover any future vet fees.
I hope you and your cat are recovering well from the ordeal (and the expense)

Slow progress for me
Slow progress is still progress! I'm at a stage were I am building a lot of online moneymakers, and all are quite a way from cash-out so its slow going!
Thinking about revamping my ebay profile and getting some sales in before christmas though. That should give me something extra for the pot!0 -

fantastic well done.
Carbootcrazy, don't feel obligated to buy raffle tickets. If people want to buy from you, nice, if they don't, no biggie, just give the books back.
Our cubs are trying to find ways to fundraise but are competing against 2 local groups who regularly do an auction and other stuff, so they dont do the raffles and trying to get people to part with money like that. very difficult these days when everything involves money.0 -
Hiya everyone - I'm back at last :j Huge thanks to my dear DH, who has kindly lent me the monies to get a new lap-top. It's a Lenovo and was £369 - which didn't seem too bad. Still finding my way around it - but way-hay at least I'm on-line again, as couldn't keep using tablet as too slow and eye-aching for me. Now to get to grips with win10 eh ;
Lx
Lovely to see you back:j. We've missed you.
I'm really happy for you that after all the trials and tribulations with your old laptop you now have a lovely new one:beer:. I assume the 'man who can' actually couldn't fix your old one:(. Mine is behaving itself (goodness knows why it is:o) so I don't know now whether to bite the bullet and buy another on Black Friday or not. Even though things are running smoothly for now I don't expect that to last, given the age of the laptop:eek:.
I've read very good reports/reviews of Lenovo. It's one of the brands I've been considering myself:T. I know I'll be using Win10 next time too as Win7 is getting a bit past it and no modern laptops have it installed. Is it much of a learning curve from 7 to 10?
My ideal would be to have a MacBook but the prices are so exorbitant even for refurbished ones:eek:. It would be one way of getting rid of Windows for good:j. I've used every version of Windows since 95 up to the current 7 with various degrees of frustration:rotfl:. The only one I was really happy with was 2000NT. Never had a minute's bother with that one.0
