Credit Cards without associated bank account

Hi all,

this is probably a stupid question but I couldn't find the answer elsewhere on your forum.

My Santander 123 current account is no longer good value for money for me, but I'm getting lots of cashback on the credit card. If I automatically switch the current account will I lose the credit card too, or are they considered completely separate accounts?

Thanks!

These are two completely separate entities. If you switch your current account, you aren't forced to close your credit card account, as far as I'm aware. I have a credit card with a bank, but I don't have a current account with the same bank.
  • I've got a couple of credit cards that stand alone (no current a/c's with those banks); however, the Nationwide Select card is only available to main current a/c customers and I would imagine that the card would no longer be able to be used if the current a/c's were closed.

Possibly Nationwide would suggest that it could be substituted for their ordinary credit card instead?
A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.

I had to close my first direct credit card when I closed my current account with them, it all depends on the bank and products you have with them.

I've just switched my Santander current account away but kept my 123 Credit Card.

It was only switched 2 weeks ago but when Santander sent me confirmation letter about my request being processed to switch out they said nothing about my Credit Card and it is still active and shown on Internet Banking when I log in.

I can confirm you don't need a Santander current account to keep the 123 MasterCard.

I briefly had a Santander Everyday account (earned cash back through Quidco) and closed the account but no problems otherwise.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • Thanks all for the answers, very helpful! Glad that I'll be able to hold on to the credit card.
