Getting help with NHS costs when at uni was almost like getting blood out of a stone! I graduated in 2004, and sent off an HC1 form every year, at all times of year (inc. summer hols when job had ended), but always got it rejected, as did all my friends.
Seems like they treat you like a child when handing out grants, then treat you as adults in every other respect!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

see my previous posts on this subject, my daughter had a very similar experience
in spite of what some previous posters have suggested, getting any help at all, help never mind full costs, is as you say, like getting blood out of a stone
she had to pay in full for everything ... prescriptions, dental care/treatment, glasses :mad:0 -
Does this go on sole income, or complete household? Im 33 and in my first year at Uni, I have no income other than my loan. My husband supports the kids etc but I wondered if his income would be taken into account as well?0

Done the HC1 form last year, received it. This year they feel they might not like me getting it due to the £500 bursary I received from my uni. The NHS is beyond a joke, a free health service? I don't think so.0

Look up the cost of some of the drugs you get for a bargain £6.65 though... My psoriasis ointment costs over £65 for a 30g tube, and I get through 1 a month... Yet my GP will write me a script for a 4 month supply. BARGAIN.April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
I don't thats a bargain. A bargain would be if it was free! I am a student, living in London and they think I can afford a monthly £6.25 prescription, pfff.0

If you don't qualify through the HC1, try applying to your university's Access to Learning Fund for help with he cost of a year's pre-payment certificate, on the grounds of an ongoing medical condition.
Mel.Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

I work in a Pharmacy and can confirm you definatley qualify for free prescriptions if you are a full time student.
Just fill out HC1 they will then send you a HC2 which you need to show each time you go to Pharmacy as they will need the number from it.
If you need a prescription before you recieve your HC2 ask for a NHS receipt and you can claim the prescription charges back, once you have your HC2...........

You have to fill in a rather detailed form (HC1) to let the health authority know that you do not earn enough to be able to pay for the prescriptions.
On the plus side, it is not only students that can claim... anyone that earns sufficiently little qualifies! :rolleyes:0 -

I'm a student living in London with a chronic disease. Bargain.
I bet you can afford a few pints in the student bar...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
my son has just been turned down for free help. because he gets a grant for uni and has a part time job they take the grant and work out what it is each week. if this works out at more then about £40 a week they have to pay for everything. i told them on the phone after paying housekeeping, car insurance, tax he has nothing left but they said the only consider paying rent no other living expenses. plus i'm only on income support and carers allowance so we don't have an income comming in. and he wears glasses so no idea how he will manage to pay for eye test and glasses as this will be £100 plus. you may be think well he's running a car but this would be cheaper then paying student digs and thought he would be better off staying at home and driving in to uni0
