Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!

    Hi all,
I am in a real grumpmongous mood. I am sick of having my time wasted by technology & am actually seeing the attraction of budgeting in 5-bar gates scratched on a wall with a pointy stick. Today is my Big Budget Day. So I had online banking which required a new set of sign-in details to be set up. This took ages as website timed out, but finally managed it & got what I wanted to do done.....fine....until I needed to sign in again to move some funds when suddenly it doesn't recognise any of my new details......or naturally, any of the old ones. Am waiting for a link to re-set. Credit card account - website has had major upgrade & is now a websh1te. Times out constantly, took 7 attempts to make a payment. Helpline is overwhelmed with calls. Then the internet crashed on laptop & it demanded a restart. I did this (while effing & blinding) & it then proceeded to do THREE separate re-configurations. Phone then announced it had an upgrade ready to install. Then said there isn't sufficient space to install the new version of whatever the **** it is.
Despite this, I have still managed to do a few things:
    *Reconciled October's budget.
*Set November's budget. A bit tight this coming month. The key will be lots of freezer meals & not getting spendy while we are on holiday.
*Paid 50p into my sealed pot.
*Paid loose change into shrapnel jar.
*Updated budget spreadsheet with new monthly amounts.
*Major filing session replacing old documents with new ones, etc.
*Decided which savings piggies to pay this month & how much.
*Decided how much to put in our 'Holiday cash-bag'. We're going to be in a self-catering cottage, so I allow that week's grocery money plus an extra £50 as well as £20 received as an anniversary gift & a spare £5 which didn't appear to belong to any specific budget & was just hanging around. It's now got a job of its own.....in the holiday bag!
*Tried to fill in tax form to reclaim the tax automatically paid on the interest on my PPI money (it arrived in our bank account this morning, so at least that was a nice thing......though I'm unable to transfer it to the Loan Pay-Down Fund as I am now completely unable to sign in. ...Grrrrrr!) Tax form dreadful. I had to send another copy of the PPI letter with the figures on in the hope that they can make sense of what interest has been paid to them instead of to me as a non-taxpayer. I think I've worked it out logically & have included my workings & asked them to advise me if it is incorrect.
*Shaped the foot on the sock I'm knitting. Just straight knitting now till I get to the toes & toes are easy & quick. That will be another gift finished, & they do look really good, as fab yarn.
*Meal plan (heavily based on freezer dives next week as it's rammed) & write shopping list.
*Put wodge of Sainso's vouchers in my bag tonight so as to remember to take them with me.
Sorry to be so moany.......there are so many worse problems than malfunctioning tech, but sometimes, it just gets to you & makes every job take 4 times as long......or makes it impossible to achieve at all.
Oh. Slight instant improvement to mood. Mr f is home & he appears to have chocolate.........
    Have a good weekend, all.
    F x

What a ball ache:eek: it is very irritating when tech goes bad.

  • Just popped in to see how you guys are!

LP - here's what I did after doing some research last night (am determined not to have another breakdown. I ended up having a year off work last year as I could take no more and have only recently gone back to work pt 18hrs pw)

    Meditation: bbc.co.uk/news/health-12263892

I cannot recommend this highly enough! I've been using this meditation for years through stressful times. If you can factor this in in the morning it really sets you up for the day

I went for a walk in my lunch break. I am going to start running again tomorrow

I took lots of fruit for snacks - I default to junk food when stressed which doesn't help as sugar levels go all over the place

I spent the first 10 minutes of the day writing a list of EVERYTHING I needed to do. Then I numbered it according to priority (not sure what your job is but mine is literally life and death stuff, I work with ppl with mental health issues who are facing eviction). Then for the rest of the day I worked myself through it, starting with 1. Of course I didn't get everything done but the things that if I didn't do it today/NOW this person is likely to be evicted/admitted to hospital got done. I managed about 2/3rds and felt immensely better although my head still felt fuzzy by 5!

Mrs f your post made me chuckle! Sorry! I need to email you some pics of my sock as not sure if I went wrong on the heel flap? It went knit row, pr, kr, kr, pr, p... So it kinda has a rows with ridges. Does that sound right?

    Hello,
Few days absence as been on long days and so I've been too tired to go online. It's a recommendation for me to take a year out from my course as there's so much going on in my life at the mo - dad's got the dread big C, my nanna's ill, moms in and out of hospital and I have my own health issues too. I got made homeless this year when the landlord sold the house out from under us just as our contract was due to expire. after a few months we landed this house which needs a full renovation. Belongs to my grandparents and we're doing the work with the idea of buying it from them when I have graduated and have a full ime job. I don't really want to take the year out but I'm so stressed with my coursework, house rebuild and family issues that it is tempting the more I think about it.

    Today's plans:
    * doing some day to stop me from Christmas shopping! Pulling wallpaper off stairs and checking which parts will need replastering. From the look of it so far filler is holding this house together so I won't be surprised if it all needs doing.
    * jackets for tea, all meals have been from stores today
    * need to use £5 for my matched bet, but is it a NSD if it's guaranteed to come back? Idk.
    * need to compile shopping list for us and for Maxxy Moo... he's graduating to raw food next week! All raw treats and tidbits have gone down well so far
    * OH gets paid Monday so need to see how much he has put aside for diy this month, it's usually around 300 so need to check spreadsheets to see what needs doing this month. Oh also see household budget so I can plan that accordingly.

I think that's all for today.

Willisox just wanted to say do whatever you feel is right for you. You do have an awful lotto and if you need time out that's ok. I took a year off of work, no job, no income but new I had too much going on in my personal life and if I didn't look after myself I was in serious trouble. Believe me a year is nothing! I'm so glad I took that time even though I did worry about what would become of me. If I could do it again I would enjoy it a lot more (I did enjoy it from April but wished I could of a bit more before that! X

I have a (virtuous) confession.... I've never had a tumble drier in my life

Me neither DNMS - not sure whether or not it is virtuous, just never had one. Couldn't have afforded it in the old days, and don't want to now :rotfl:

    Busy today:
    Wrapped 6 ebay parcels
Hoovered downstairs, and washed kitchen and bathroom floors
    Post office with parcels
Popped into sales unit - or rather non-sales unit, in my case :(
Small shop in Mr S, used vouchers for extra points that I had been sent, that didn't depend on buying anything specific, or spending a certain amount :)
My favourite coffee brand was on offer at £1 off, so I bought the one on my list, plus another to put away
Nabbed half a dozen wine boxes from bay at front of store for ebay packing. Asked a lady about to jettison a carrier bag of newspapers into the recycling bin if I could have them instead - they are useful for packing too :D
Put the mincemeat I made yesterday into jars, still got to find space in the larder for these
Froze the stewed apple I did yesterday
Used up leftover soup for lunch
Made a huge sausage and veg casserole for dinner, incorporating all the odds and ends from the fridge. There will be enough of this left for Sunday evening. We are going away overnight tomorrow, and it will be nice to come back to something that only needs heating up :D
Changed bed and washed bedding - mostly dry on line, will finish on airer overnight
Cleared a couple of big garden pots and cut back a huge sage bush at the back of the raised bed that was encroaching on everything else. Cut back the clematis and a big swathe of oregano that was going mad at the front of the raspberry border. Found 3 big carrots and a double handful of French beans as I was clearing. One of the carrots, and a couple of leeks from the garden, found their way into my sausage casserole :)
    Walked dog
    A few onepoll surveys
Still need to do some business paperwork and locate and pack a vase that has just sold. Coffee needed first though!

Yay it's Saturday :j happy with myself that after being productive focus img on emergencies I haven't been worrying about my workload after leaving work yesterday :T today I plan to restart running - although at this point it'll be a mixture of power walking & jogging!

Meeting dd for contact today. Planning to go to local wildlife park as they have some Halloween activities on. Not sure how the rest of the weekend will go as although madam loves seeing dd it has an emotional impact on her afterwards and her behaviour is affected(brings out an angry side and she has a little bit of a mean streak in her for a couple of days. Like we all do when were upset I guess!)

So the weekend will largely revolve around lots of love and attention for madam. Probably get some popcorn and watch a family film. I want to make some Halloween lanterns using jam jars and tissue paper glued to them so madam can help with that. Also a few other Halloween craft projects for her tea party with her bff on Monday

Need to update my spending diary as haven't done it since Thursday

    Knitting or comforter bars....

    Think that's it....

    Have fun x

I couldn't afford one when I was younger and with the kids and now I think if I survived when I had two teenagers without one I don't really need one :rotfl:

Also I've never had a tV in a bedroom!
