Possible eBay fraudster

I sold to this guy an iPhone 6 Plus as faulty.

Now he's got an identical iPhone for sale and is selling it as brand new and only 2 months old.

I am pretty sure this is the one I sold him and he says it's an upgrade but the phone is sold as unlocked, which mine was.

I have asked him through another account for the serial number to check if it's my old phone he is trying to pass as new but he still has to reply.

If it is indeed my old phone, what do you suggest that I do?

Nothing. It's none of your business.

Well if you were buying that phone as new and it's just a repaired phone in such a good cosmetic condition to pass as new, wouldn't you wanna know? Why should he be left unpunished when he's trying to con someone. A phone that's had almost 2 years of use and was repaired won't be worth the same as a 2 month-year-old phone.

You don't even know it's your phone!

Even if it is, there is nothing you can do. Even if you report it to eBay, they won't care.

    Seriously, just forget about it.

Well this guy doesn't sell phones usually. He is selling a phone that is the same model and colour of mine a few days after buying mine. It is supposed to be an upgrade but it's already unlocked and he says it sat unused for the past 2 months but then why would he have unlocked it if he hasn't even needed to use it?

It simply can't be a new phone like he is saying. It just bothers me that he will make money out of someone when I know it's not a new phone he is selling.

Again. There is nothing you can do. It is none of your business now. Forget about it.

Agree with the above. I know where you are coming from but its not your responsibility. You have no way of knowing if it is your phone. Even if it is, how do you know they have not fixed the fault? Or needed a part for another phone?

It is up to the buyer of the phone to deal with any problems, not you. It is nice you do not want anyone to be ripped off but you have no idea of knowing they will be.

When you sold your phone that was the end of your connection with it.

It now belongs to your buyer. If he/she wants to sell it, regardless of how they describe it, that is up to them.

Or are you peeved because they might make more money?

I know what my phone needed. A resoldering of the touch chip as it had the touch disease that some iPhones have (if you google it, you'll know what it is in case you don't know already). To do a reballing you need a certain equipment and specialized shops usually just reflow and do not reball anyway, which means the soldering will fail again in a short time. If he gave me the serial number I could check easily it's mine for sure but he's not replying.

The point is if he fixed it, it's not a brand new phone at all. I guess I'll leave it but very annoyed that people can do this without suffering any consequences.

Some phones come unlocked when new. Depends where you buy from.

Maybe he got a new phone but decided to try and fix up a faulty one and sell the new on for more, saving him a bit on money while still allowing him to have the phone he wants.

Perhaps he's selling that new phone for a family member of friend so he is using the one you bought and just happens to be selling the other.

Phones come in set colours so it's not exactly odd that he could have two the same colour.

Even if it is the same, as already said, ebay won't do anything.

If it is still faulty or hasn't been fixed properly the new buyer will realise anyway and be sending it back for a refund and leaving him negative feedback.

Even if it is fixed the buyer might question whether it's new. It may look new at a glance but a closer look may reveal use.

If it does look new and works like new and it is the same phone then it's sad the buyer overpaid and the seller was dishonest, but there's really nothing you can do about it.

Nah, he's getting just over what I sold it to him for lol, so it's not that that bothers me. Just the thought he is most likely conning someone who's completely unaware.
