Advice re TalkTalk's new charges

  • Why pay for the TV package when you are only an occasional viewer(with a Freeview Aerial)?.
You should thus be paying no more than £25.50 for broadband and phone ONLY --which is hard to beat anywhere--with that price lasting 18 months.
I do agree though re their on line chat service--it's slower than a snail
  • plus plus--get a friend to set you up with Skype(free) instead of paying international phone calls rates and don't forget that all providers allow you move your package if you change location.

Thanks for noticing my post and offer to help. I don't use Twitter and you recommend accessing the TT online community by registering; as I already have an online a/c with TT so can I cross over to the community there? Will try that. How are you named on the list of companies here - as TalkTalk Company Representative?

I can't find anyone with your name called "TalkTalk Company Representative" - there are several "Becky" called "TalkTalk Company Expert"!

stick to the phone.keep off the site.
    retention team is the ones to talk to. no one else;;;;
Feastspeed(was simply Broadband) + calls is what you want.17mbs

becky is just a alias, there's loads of them in their call centre's..
tell them you don't want tv, if you don't use it. that's going to reduce the cost.
they tried to flog it to me.I don't have it, even though their generic letter of new contract says I do.
    They love to confuse people.

I phoned TT to renegotiate my contract and used the SSE offer at £21 pm as basis for discussion.
I was offered 18 months at £30 pm for faster fibre, anytime calls and line rental. I told them it was too expensive and would move provider.
I have just phoned again to be told they could not offer anything better and in fact would not honour the £30 pm offer as this has been withdrawn and they now want £32pm.

As you can imagine this is the final straw and I will now move my service after being with TT for over 10 years.

I've never had fibre, so cannot say what it' entails going from fibre to all coppe, it;s onlly to the main box??.
    they are
probably the same, all fibre,to the box,and they just slow the speed of us copper, cheaper users down?

As far as I know, they deliver fibre to the box in the street then either continue the higher speeds on to individual homes via wi-fi, or the lower speeds via your existing landline. This is because technology has yet to discover a way to deliver more than 17mb via copper (at least at a realistic cost).

The only way to get fibre speeds is either this way or via an actual fibre optic cable to your property. This method is expensive and available only through Virgin. The limit for copper used to be 2mb so who knows what the future holds?

If this is not the case, no doubt there will be people along to shoot me down in flames because my knowledge is out of date.
  • Thanks all for advice received. I've spent 2 hours yesterday "chatting" with TT and had offer of £25 with unlimited UK calls. It seems they won't go any better and unless I accept I might lose it. I admit it would be easier to stick with TT as it would be less hassle than losing all the free calls from other TT users and swapping routers etc.

Any advice whether to try again and if so, should I refer to this offer or start all over again.
