I think I posted something about feedback before here. Feedback is harder to come by than ever before. Way back (over 12 years ago) I used to get feedback from every item. And great feedback... Now, hardly any feedback. One particular instance. Last year - about December - I bent over backwards to help a buyer who messed me around - collection in person - endlessly. I was beyond helpful, when she finally (three weeks later) arranged collection and came to supervise, van late, I made tea and was generally hospitable. No feedback. Blocked her. There is such a thing as good manners. Anyway now, I don't leave feedback for a buyer until they have confirmed that they have received the item and that they are happy. End of. The day I receive notification that item has been received, I leave feedback. Too many buyers, just buy and never leave feedback. That's where the system will eventually breakdown which is where I guess it's heading. If no-one leaves feedback for a seller - and I always check seller feedback - where does this end up?
  • I'd say around a 1/3 or less of my buyers leave feedback now, I never chase feedback as said above, no feedback is better than bad feedback :) I'd be worried doing that would provoke bad feedback x
  • As a mostly buyer these days I always leave feedback for private sellers. Often I have communication with the seller prior to purchase so leaving feedback is polite, much like saying thank you.

Business sellers do not get any feedback unless there has been a problem and the seller wouldn't fix or was rude. The hoops businesses have to jump through to ensure they can continue to sell is in general more than enough to ensure good service.

I don't feel like saying 'thanks' for each item that comes through the post box. Business sellers don't say thanks to me, their ebay account often does it automatically, so there is no real interaction

Also, it is difficult to find feedback on a specific item, so it does not really help other buyers. Much prefer the Amazon system.

I enclose notes with my items but only to encourage buyers to buy direct from my websites. I never chase feedback.

If anyone worries about not getting feedback then steer clear of Amazon, feedback to a seller is incredibly rare there!

  • Buyers can only receive positive feedback from sellers anyway, so not leaving it for a buyer won't make any difference to 'the system'.

As a buyer, I never leave feedback anymore unless I have very bad service, in which case I will leave a neg but haven't done that for well over 2 years now.
The reason being is its a pain to have to log in, find the purchase and go through the process just to say "Received thanks"

Other buyers don't really want to know that I received my item. They only want to know if the seller gave bad service.

Its time Ebay got rid of the system.

Never leave feedback for small items bought from big sellers.

If it's from a private seller we do

I wait for sellers to leave feedback, and even have moments where i will leave poor feedback for sellers that dont.

Leave feedback for your buyers, you may get me on a bad day.... Why risk it? You cannot leave negative anyway.

I'm really quite shocked at your post, I would have expected that of a newbie but not from you. I was not aware, having read and agreed with many of your posts over the years that you were so desperate for attention that you become petty enough to leave poor feedback for sellers that don't bother with feedback.

Sorry but it makes you sound a rather lonely and bitter person who lives for online attention and I would strongly suggest that you walk away from ebay for a while if it has that much meaning for you, it really isn't healthy.

I am really quite shocked though to read that from a respected regular on here

My understanding of eBay feedback was that the basic principle is for the buyer to leave feedback first. This is because it confirms the end of transaction. If the seller leaves the feedback first they may not have had confirmation that the buyer had received the item, or that the buyer is happy with the item. If the buyer hasn't left feedback I don't leave them feedback.

I used to leave feedback for buyers who had not left feedback only to find they never did leave feedback and so I was increasing their feedback score but my own feedback score, seemingly through no fault of my own was not increasing. I think other buyers can sometimes rely on the feedback left by previous buyers to know whether to trust a seller, they don't only hold an interest in negative feedback.
