I Want To Be Mortgage Free!

The normal mortgage payment has gone out today which includes an overpayment of £50 and the new total is £63,474.00. When our 10% allowance resets at the beginning of August I'm going to increase the £50 overpayment to £100. We have nearly £3000 in the EF but I can't help wanting to take £500 of that and make an overpayment so that we use all of our 10% allowance before it runs out!! I might talk to DH about it because I can't help thinking that it would be of better use overpaying on the mortgage than sitting in DH's saving account making hardly any interest! On the other hand I want to get the EF up to £5000 in case, well you know there's an emergency! Argh someone help and tell me what to do! Lol!
I'm on £39.15 on onepoll, these last couple of pounds seem to take forever to get!! I am waiting for a cheque to be sent from Inbox Pounds for cashing out on there, I don't know why they don't get with the times and do PayPal.
I've listed a necklace on ebay which I don't wear anymore and I hope will sell. I've also decided to sell my bicycle as I just don't use it anymore and it's sat gathering dust but I think I'll use the local freeads for that.
I have decided to try amazon prime for a few months and see it how it goes. I find I'm ordering more on amazon now that I'm getting the dogs flea and worming stuff on there as well as other things and I'm hoping it will save me money on the postage. As I'm also a big reader I'm going to use it for the free books and read them on my tablet as opposed to buying hard copies. DH is already making use of the amazon prime TV so he's happy!
Have a lovely week!

It would be a shame not to use up the whole 10% allowance this year... Use it or lose it0

I agree, you should use your 10% allowance.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I was thinking!
DH and I had a chat about it and we decided to make the overpayment. Our deal comes to an end in September 18 so we thought the best thing we could do is overpay as much as we can so that when we come to look at deals we should hopefully get some good ones as our LTV will have decreased.
I called Natwest this morning and made an overpayment of £574 (We had £589 of our allowance left) which takes the total to £62,900! I haven't crossed off the square on my chart yet as the interest may take us back over £63K but as we won't know until the 9th August I'll just have to wait and see and as the allowance resets on the 1st I'll be able to make an overpayment to take us back under! The bloke I spoke to asked the usual question of 'Why are you overpaying?' and my response 'I want to move to Devon!!!!'
We're getting close to '£60K by the end of the year' target so I'm feeling good!!
The shopping for the next two weeks came yesterday and was £10 under budget at £90 so I'm quite pleased with that but can't help feeling like I've forgotten something! I'm hoping Aldi will hurry up and build their new shop round the corner from me so I'm able to walk there to do my shopping and get my spend down even more!
I'm still soldiering on with the surveys but I'm finding it difficult to get the motivation to do them this week. Might have a couple of days off and give myself a little break from them!
Have a nice day!

I find I lose motivation with surveys after a while too - I think you're right, a short break and they will regain their 'appeal'!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I can see why SJ!! Lol! I don't mind doing them that much and if I put the effort in I can make about £100 a month from them. I know that doesn't sound like much but as I'm not working at the moment it does help contribute to the household bills and I don't feel completely useless!Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Thanks CharlieKat! I do quite a few survey sites but my favourites are Swagbucks, Prolific, Panelbase.net and MySurvey UK.
Well done on the food spends! I find it quite difficult because quite frankly I like to eat! Lol!
I wish we were moving to Devon but unfortunately it won't be for a long time if ever! It's just a dream that helps motivate me really! xMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
