Credit Card issues

Last month I was on holiday with no internet access and, as such, was not able to pay my card on time.

I have the direct debit set to take the minimum payment, so didn't thought much of this.

Couple of days later I realize the payment is still due and no DD was taken from my account. I paid the statement in Full and though nothing of it.

Now whilst paying this month statement I realise they actually charged me interest, so this months payment is actually just the interest as I didn't use the card. Does this mean I somewhat defaulted!? If so, what impact and for how long will this stay on my credit file?

Worst yet, just a couple of days ago I paid for a purchase of £88.80, which, due to a mistake, went trough as £888.

Apparently the transaction was accepted over my credit limit. I have now asked for the issue to be corrected and a refund has been made, taking into account the correct amount.

Will I be charged a over limit fee?

Thanks

Get on the phone to the CC company.

If there is a DD setup in sufficient time to collect minimum payment, then it is their responsibility to request the DD in time to hit your account. You should not have any charges.

Find out what you can and then progress it to a written complaint if they don't resolve it on the phone (along with refunding any fees & interest incurred and correcting any CRA status)

Nothing, I could get a patchy GSM service (no GPRS).

It sounds like your manual payment arrived in the few days gap between the due date and the statement being produced.

If there is any late fee for no payment in time, then this should be easy to argue against on the basis they failed with the DD.

Strictly speaking if that was set for the minimum, then you wouldn't avoid interest, but they may be willing to waive interest for a first incident of full payment arriving a day late.

This isn't a default but a late payment and subsequent interest charges.

How long has the DD been set up? Have you asked them why they didn't take it?

Ask them nicely (always nicely, ranting doesn't get you anywhere) and they may be able to waive the late payment fee for a first offence but you need to find out about the DD as you don't want this happening every month if it's supposed to take the minimum on time.

As for your CR, if you paid it within a few days then you it may not get reported (this depends on the monthly date your CC company report activity).

I just called them and surprisingly there was no DD set up!! I always pay manually once the statement is available, so never noticed this.

The balance was due on the 29th August, with an estimated interest of £15.51 and a late payment fee of £12.

I paid on the 4th of September. They charged me £13.02 Interest.

Why 13.02? I would understand £15.51 or £12 for the late payment, but not £13.02. Who took my call just told me it was interest accrued for late payment, no other explanation.

    Any ideas?

Your statement should tell you your interest and charges due on the payment due date.

They should also estimate how much interest you may pay next month.
