looks like the green with envy labour traditionalists will get their wish which is that NR shareholders will end up with f*** all. light_fart.gif
  • Just sold my alliance and leicester shares today for a nice quick profit of over £1000, not to shabby.

Will pop into markseys on the way home for a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape to celebrate. Any further rises are now irrelevant, ive made my money :)

    I agree.

Those who think that the share price can only go up from here should remember what happened to Railtrack.

Railtrack was a government cockup paid for the the shareholders. Stephen byers should have been hung drawn and quartered !! The resulting Network Rail takeover cost taxpayers far more money than Railtrack, accidents did not stop and the crap Railtrack managers merely resumed their posts in the so called new Network Rail :0

Northern Rock have dropped as low as £1.11 today but have since risen considerably to around £1.40. I bought shares yesterday at £1.52, saw them rise to £1.58+ and then drop like a stone to £1.32. Anyone with any sense should keep well away from these shares (I have more money than sense and I haven't got much money :-)). The stock market is currently recovering well - pick a fund that will not see you losing all your money. We have seen Marconi, British Energy, Railtrack, etc rendered more or less valueless in the recent past and now a once solid banking share is teetering. Investment in individual shares, even in the FTSE 100 has proven to be a gamble.

At least you can get most of your money back (traded around £1.50 this morning) The thing is, do you hold out for a bid or sell out? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2007/10/03/bcnrock103.xml
  • Why would my fund manager at a major investment company buy me Northern Rock shares on 11 September with all the uncertainty around! The shares lost around £5,000.00 almost overnight. Is it because his company needed to offload some of their Northern Rock stock!

You have a fund manager who has authorisation to buy shares for you without your express consent?
