I think you're being grossly unfair. cakefan is extremely disciplined because she buys fake Ugg boots from Primark when she could be squandering money on real ones. Martin thoroughly approves of her mse ways I'm sure:money:. And her daughter must have huge self discipline as she knows how to put the brakes on herself.

Maybe I'm a nostalgic oldphart, but in my secondary technical school from 1956 to '61, we all wore black blazers, white shirts, dark grey or black trousers and ties. The school was a bunch of Nissen huts, being an ex-German POW camp, but the education that I received there prepared me for 3 technical careers and several engineering qualifications. And that is what should concern every parent about the school: is my child getting a good education? The fact is that the schools with the kind of discipline that uniform encourages, are the ones which give children the best education.

Discipline is what is lacking in life today. I don't mean the discipline that is enforced physically, I mean the discipline that comes from knowing where the borders of behaviour are. Teaching self-discipline to a child is the best favour you can give them to map out the rest of their lives. Look around you in your area. How many adults, never mind their kids, never learned self-discipline?

    Discipline?
The OP can't even get her daughter to wear proper school shoes.

When I went to school only a certain type of school establishment didn't have blazers and allowed students to wear inappropriate footwear ;)

As the saying goes a school with a strict uniform policy is a bad performing school

Not a saying I have ever heard!

I doubt the parents who send their offspring to schools like Eton, with an exceptionally strict uniform policy, will agree with you either as their children will be the ones going onto Oxbridge and then high-flying careers whilst your two will be the ones serving them in NMW retail jobs.

Must say that's a new one on me

Round here it is the complete opposite.

A school with lack uniform policies are normally the schools where the children who have no other options go

My school for example was in the top ten for schools in my area and all the schools round here have ties and blazers. We would have been in isolation if we didn't have correct uniform and shoes on. By being strict it installs respect for the rules and prepares you for when you start work and have to obey a uniform policy.

possibly the most ridiculous made-up saying I've ever seen (and never heard), even coming from the OP :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

That 'saying' totally passed me by too.
    It sounds a little silly.

Maybe the OP could explain where she heard it said.
