We've just had a quote of £3285 for 14 unit Burford. I reckon we could lose 5 of the units to cut down, but mostly just hi-line units so nothing fancy. I've done a rough comparison with much nicer looking Homebase kitchen (don't mind the wait or extra work to build) and they come in cheaper. Not what I'd expected.0

Talk about blinding with science, all these sales which aren't sales. Same thing with financial products and enough to drive you mad. Do you remember the good old days when there was just one price and each trader offered his own bit of discount or had occasional real sales?

Talking to Howdens at the moment about a new kitchen. I am really dubious of the discounting and the level of discounts available, our quote for a Burford Cream has several items the same as hayzey but our discounts are lower. This will give me something to talk to them about in the morning. D Day tomorrow as they saying it has to be delivered this week for the sale price!!!
Cheers Edd0 -

Howdens rung me up today whilst at work saying they couldn't get hold of my kitchen fitter and rung me instead to see if I was still interested in the sale price. I read this to be they are desperate to get my order.
Since shopping around and being totally disillusioned with kitchen sales etc we have decided to go with a recommended local family run kitchen firm who will make up our painted oak doors and units to order etc......unlike the big sheds they dont just see a small gap in the unit run and say 'oh we will stick a spice rack in there' they will actually make the cupboard unit fit the space you have. All in all we will get our medium to large kitchen/utility professionally fitted with all new integrated appliances inc range, all walls/ceilings plastered, elecs/gas, new designer rads, Duropal worktops/upstands, cooker hood the works for 7k......all in time for xmas (hopefully)0 -
Hi there,
I'm just about demented looking at kitchens trying to judge their quality etc. where are you located and who was the company if you don't mind me asking.0 -
I've just completed my new howdens kitchen. I'm really happy with it. I got free work tops thrown in, though they messed the quote uo so much that I ended u paying an extra £300 in the end. It's not easy to do when things ar eupside down, but checking everything off when the delivery comes is good advice. Fortunately my howdens is nearby so i went by most days to swap/return things.0

I too was pretty much coming to the end of my tether with kitchen companies. In a nutshell most of the big sheds have the same carcasses (some flat pack and some pre-built) but different doors/hinges etc. I took a look at the following:
B&Q (Cooke and Lewis - marketing ploy) - not impressed
Wickes - Very expensive out of sale
Howdens - see previous threads
Wrens Kitchens - worth going to see showroom where they display their carcasses side by side with the usual suspects, decent pre-built carcasses and sensibly priced about 3 months ago - now joined the big sheds in big SALE marketing ploys
Local Firm - Family firm in Wrexham/Chester area (if similar area happy to msg you with name and contact details) - straight forward and no hidden suprises
** Just bought new appliances and saved approx 50% than at big sheds! **:cool:0 -
I'm getting 75%-83% off the list price of my kitchen, with some of the other bits (not appliances) thrown in, but they did want the order or that placed before the end of October. This was leaving it until the very last minute.
Very happy with this price, to be honest. As others have said, the list prices are pure fantasy, but the actual price I'm paying seems pretty good.0
