I NEED to come shopping with you lol
Hahaha.
I'm a bit addicted to getting free stuff I think...
My top tips are just to talk with confidence and suck up about the brand, be prepared to explain how you've not tried them before and/or have before and loved other stuff. Pick something you know you need (I was going for cleansers I can use in shower) and explain you need to try a few things to see if you get on with them.
I do get a lot of freebies but I do also use these to inform what I go on to buy.0 -

I bought the hair and beauty advent calendar from my local Sally Salon (in my defence I walk past there every day and it kept looking at me through the window!). So that's 24 INs although I don't know what they are yet.
Sorry about the work troubles for you and yours Lou and Gemzie. It's a tough working environment out there. A small thing about universities though (I work for one), the majority of them have been hit as badly as the rest of the public sector and there's a lot of outsourcing of staff/cutbacks so it's unrecognisable compared to a few years ago. I was horrendously bullied last year and found I had very little protection. But a job is a job! Hope things get better for you both soon.
That's horrible about your experience of Unis. I do know what you mean though and I was aware of the cuts and changes. Mine went through various restructures. They too have temp banks often as another option, but yeh I think public sector is generally rough. It's all I know though! Work for a small charity now and we're so stretched but it's lovey and friendly, if exhausting and frustrating.0 -

Same here, I've always worked in the public sector. We have a restructure at least once every 2 years. My employer is trying to save money by hiring unpaid students to do work under the guise of 'experience'. This is good for them but means we aren't employing people to fill roles. But I do enjoy my work very much."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
Lou85- im really sorry to hear about the outcome re. Your OH's job
seems its too easy these days for employers to get away with treating people unfairly. I know what you mean about tribunals, if i am dismissed i imagine i will have to move on too, hence im applying already, its probably going to be too expensive to take them to tribunal unless i can get it no win no fee but finding someone to take it on will be hard. Solicitor mentioned it can sometimes be covered under home insurance but we have only just moved and it depends on what our insurance covers us for as we had to change from directline to a small specialist company as this house has been previously flooded :-/ i dont really know about insurance so no idea. I hope the job interview went well for your OH.
Gemzie, with regards to the insurance basically when you take out house insurance there is an option to add legal expenses insurance to it. If you have this you may be able to claim on your insurance to take your employer to Tribunal. The insurance company may want you to use their panel solicitors but if you can find a solicitor who you'd rather use who will accept the insurance company's terms and conditions you will be able to use a solicitor of your own choosing.Did owe £9,951.96

I have an in from today that I think may be the absolute definition of an uncessary toiletry:
Sheet face mask, that wait for it, makes your face look like a cartoon otters face whilst you're wearing it. Made me smile when I used it not sure it did a lot though!0 -
UU
Lush Breath of Fresh Air Skin toner 250g - I'm not kidding when I say this is almost 10 years old. It had a date of 2007 on it. This bottle goes a long way. I used it up quicker by spraying it on my face before applying face masks but it still lasted quite a while and was lovely to use. I got this as a gift and would consider buying it but I'll focus on other toners in the stash for now.
Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Conditioner 200ml - Herbal Essences are a favourite brand of mine and I already have some more in the stash to get through. WDBA. I've replaced this with a travel size bottle of Aussie conditioner.
I'll have at least one other use up by tomorrow morning as I have one wipe left in my current packet. There are a couple of perfume samples in my make-up bag which I plan to use up at a Halloween party.
I'm also really proud of myself as I was close to impulse buying this week. I saw some heavily reduced products from a brand I'd love to try in Boots (it would have been a great bargain so I exercised all my restraint not to purchase any).No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2019 Total UU since 2016 - 396 | Total February UU - 10 -

Ahh thankyouim not exactly sure what is covered on our insurance, i will ask mum to find out what exactly she signed up for. All i know is we have only just taken it out as only just moved, and getting insurance for this house was a nightmare due to a flood that happened 9 years ago which previous owners claimed for the damage. we had directline for old house but they refused to cover us for this one. Im not sure who we are with but ill try and find out.
I have a uu tonight as i finished another pot of hair mask id had at old house but hadnt finished, this one still smelled fine.
Avon naturals grapefruit & passion fruit hair treatment mask- WBA i really like the smell of this. It does an ok job but better suited to summer use when my hair isnt so parched as it is in winter.
Im feeling so meh at the moment. Normally id be excited for christmas but i just cant be bothered with the thought of it this year. I think im mentally exhausted from the recent events and i dont feel settled here yet. Im really pining for my old life and i desperately miss the normality of my job, the residents and the people i worked with. Im still in shock at having done 5 years there and suddenly not be going in for shifts. Im terrified at the thought of being unemployed as i hate it and it makes me feel so useless. The whole stress of finding another job. I feel like ive lost my whole identity and im not me anymore. Would give anything to go back to my job. It really feels like im in the middle of a horrible nightmare, i just wish i could wake up and everything be back to how it was and normal again :-/ going to see GP tomorrow to read her letter back to them as she wants me to see both the letter from my employer to her and her response before its sent back. I really hope she can help me with this, shes my last hope.
I am however proud of myself for resisting ordering phoenix risings today from lush. I got up at 8 to get them then thought actually i have 3 left, they arent fresh but do i really need anymore currently. I decided that as im not working currently the money would be better in my account. So i resisted. Even though i adore phoenix risings. Im so proud because im a kitchen addict at heart. Circumstances just mean i need to be sensible and think before i order. No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2015/2016/2017/2018

Sorry to hear about all the employment related woes - it's vile being in a job you hate. We just spend too much time at work for it to be bearable to be there when it's not pleasant.Houseplant26 wrote: »I have an in from today that I think may be the absolute definition of an uncessary toiletry:

I have a UU from last night. Otter face mask. WNBA as I feel it wa a little bit, how shall I say, style over substance. Also it was way too big for my face and really wet.0 -
Hi ladies. Not much happening on the UUs although I pulled out the remains of my PCMC 100ml pot to find that there's probably only a week's worth of applications left. So much for thinking it will last until Christmas. Have told MRM of my woes and the worry that my face may look old and wrinkly come Christmas but it looked like it was falling on deaf ears! I do have plenty of the Oxygenating Night Cream though and will start using this when the PCMC is UU.
I also bought a new mascara yesterday - only a cheapie Essence one just to see what it is like. I have my Clinique Lash Power which is brown and a L'Oreal Million Lashes (?) in black that Emma gave me as she didn't like it but I don't like it either. The brush is awful and feels really bristly so it hurts when I apply it. It smelt funny this morning as well so will replace it with the Essence one tomorrow.
Repainted my finger nails and toe nails yesterday. Wearing OPI Manicurist of Saville on fingers and My Private Jet on my toes.
Am going to TA a few more items too: Revlon Iced Ameythyst lipstick, Sephora by OPI Metro Chic lacquer and NYX SOS eyeshadow. I really don't reach for purple lip or nail colour and the eyeshadow goes on patchily so I'm saying goodbye to them all.
There is an OPI TSV tomorrow and I think I may a) cave and buy it or b) talk MrM into buying it. The latter sounds the best bet really. Have just wandered into Sally's to have a look at the colours in the kit and looked at swatch comparisons on I'm a Beauty Geek and I really don't own anything like any of them except the red.
The LE TSV arrived earlier this week and I was really impressed by the packaging and bag that came with the kit.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!
