Maybe best to ring them & ask that question I-T....they may say best to postpone until Shelter can accompany, it only uses 1 appointment slot then.

This is shocking news and this has certainly opened my eyes to council behaviour. My only concern about delaying the meeting to quite rightly get legal representation / shelter attendance might be they would just record you don't attend then try and use it against you.

I think you are right to be prepared to go through every single detail in your history - the long version. If you have time write out a script, so you can cover everything as you would wish, don't let them hurry you through it.

    Good Luck.

I was looking on the shelter website which says part of being considered intensionally homeless is "you left accommodation that you could have stayed in". Others have also suggested you make a point of this, even if you had paid your rent you still couldn't stay.

Oh Mot I am in tears I am so angry for you.

With regards to HLO regarding you seem able to manage your affairs. This might be of interest to her:rolleyes: I have recently suffered a complete breakdown (this is not a feel sorry for me post honest). My Point is that if you met me prior to diagnosis or even today I would have a fixed grin and whilst I can manage the tougher things simple things confuse the hell outta me. My Point being that the CPN I use says this is a form of "smiling depression" as a coping mechanism. I feel that you Hun are dealing with the tougher issues coz you have to and are smiling coz you worry about the twins so this HLO is assuming that you are not as affected as some maybe. She expects to see you in tears and shouting, she maybe needs to realise that not all depression is like that. It has many forms.
Can Shelter go with you tmwr? Make them understand that even if you had paid your rent in full and up to date the !!!!!! landlord:eek: was still selling the property, you would still need to be housed so they need to house you.

Is someone from SHELTER accompanying you to the meeting, or are they, and you, happy that you can and should attend on your own?

    Hi rog,

I'm going to the meeting with I-T who, as you have probably realised, is very literate and communicative, so when I fall apart he will be able to speak on my behalf.

I've just read the other posts since rog2's post at 2.56pm and I do agree with what I-T has written and the thought that it may be a 'one only' appt crossed my mind too.

Gill, you have absolutely summed me up to a tee! Your CPN would say the same about me - that I have what you call 'smiling depression' as I, too, put a smile on for the world and can cope with the tougher things that life has to throw at me such this, but when it comes to dealing with everyday things such as finances I haven't been able to cope - its been like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Okay and the best of luck - if there is anything that either you don't agree with or understand or if you feel that the HLO is trying to interpret your situation in a way that, whilst it may suit the council, could go against you, stop and say that you would like time to seek independent professional advice on that point.

My friends Mum died about 3 months ago, it was sudden and a shock to us, but I went into overdrive, forgot my problems and did so much to help her and family. Even accompanied her Dad (who had left her Mum 5 years ago and was the blacksheep of the family) to the funeral - I'd never met him but knew it meant a lot to my friend and her daughters.

I had the same said about me then - that I was strong.

Seems that I can be strong for other people just not myself.

Now I am sounding like 'poor me' and I really don't mean to - sorry.
