when my freind was homeless they didnt tell her their decsesion untill the day before her evcition when my freind asked why they left it to the last moment to tell her her housing officer told her that they dont consdier you homeless untill the last few days of your order as at the moment you are not homeless and there will be people who they will have to be housing today as there order will be runing out so dont be surprised if they dont say the same thing to you just make sure you get it in writting that they will offer you some housing when the order runs out

    Morning all,

Had a good nights sleep - I'm amazed!

Thank you for all your posts after I'd gone to bed, its so nice to know that you care enough to read this thread.

Earwig, I don't doubt that you are right in what you say but its such a cruel way of dealing with matters like this particularly where there are children involved.

Did I read something earlier in this thread that the Council have a time limit in which to deal with this?

Anyway, will on to council at 9am to speak to Head of Housing and will update on here later.

    Have a good day xx

I-T is so furious that he has written a letter to the council:

    Head of Department
    Housing
    *******
    ******
    ******
    ******
    ****** 23 October 2007

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Re: Ms *******& Family. *****************

I am writing with regard to the above lady’s application for housing, Ms ***** is a friend of mine and I am watching her slowly fall apart because of the time it is taking to get a decision from your Housing Officer.

She has no option but to leave her current address as the landlord has sold the property. ***** has been served with a possession order and latterly a bailiff’s warrant that orders her to leave ********** by 8th November 07.

For some 4 weeks now, since being served with the Court Order, she has been living with her possessions packed around her and this is making life extremely difficult for her and her 11year old twins **** *** ******. The oven in the Cottage packed up over a week ago and this has added to her stress in that it is now difficult to prepare meals for her and the children. The landlord naturally will not have the cooker repaired and is now harassing her, a matter that has been reported to the Police.

I understand that the Council has rules but in the circumstances that this lady is living in, the fact that she has nowhere to go and no option of remaining where she is, together with the mental anguish that this is causing her, could your department not be a little more sympathetic and make a speedy decision, hopefully in her favour?

**** has gone out of her way to provide answers to all your queries plus information from the children’s school and her GP, only to be told that the person in your department who is dealing with her case and who promised her a decision by last Friday has taken some leave and that no one else can assist her. Surely ****,***** and **** can be shown some sympathy and understanding of their predicament. Ms **** needs to feel that you are treating her case expeditiously but unfortunately she is getting the impression that there is no sense of urgency to deal with her case. She is living with uncertainty second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour and day by day. I would ask that you try and appreciate the trauma she is going through.

Ms **** is a kind and caring mother with two beautiful, well behaved children that just happens to have found herself in very difficult circumstances through no fault of her own. This family deserves to have their case treated expediently and with consideration.

**** has no other possible means of housing herself and her children and is desperately struggling to keep herself from completely falling apart, for the sake of her children and her sanity. The conditions under which she is living, together with these unrelenting delays, would have reduced a weaker woman to suicide by now.

Whilst Ms **** is a very resilient woman, I fear that if this goes on much longer it may have drastic and long lasting effects.

I apologise for the length of this letter but as a friend I cannot stand by and do nothing. I cannot watch **** falling apart and not do my best to help her. I feel for her and her children; they need stability to be restored to their lives and for the Council to set the way for a brighter future.

Please, please give her your best and most favourable consideration without further delay.

    Thank you for your attention.

i know what happened to my freind was that her mum was ill so she went to stay with her for for 8 weeks you know living between her house then staying at her mothers( her and her sister took it in turn to care for their mum) when her mum had to be moved into a care home she come back to her home to be told by her dh:rolleyes: that he had sold the house and had brought a new one 80 miles away with his new girlfriend and my freind had 3 weeks before she had to get out as that when the new buyers were moving in

my freind wasnt on the mortage and had been with dh:rolleyes: 6 years she was shocked to the core she went to the councill and they was really cold towards her saying things like she must of known and she was aking herself homeless and they wanted a letter from her dh:rolleyes: to say that he had done this but he wouldnt do her a letter saying he was to busy so right at the last moment the councill put her in bb while they investegated further

my friend had to dh to court thats when he admited what he had done and then councill then offerd her a two bed flat as a temp tennant when she stayed untill they made her a proper tennant how any of this was her fault i will never know

  • Great letter, i-t. What a pity the council have allowed things to drag on to such an extent that it became necessary. :(

I can understand a council not covering a position when someone's on leave if the job is purely administrative, but when someone does such a vital role as processing housing applications, that part of their job should be covered by someone else if only to work on the applications from those who will be homeless & are therefore in urgent need. It's ridiculous that someone getting a roof over their heads is dependent on someone returning to work from leave - what happens if they are sick & don't come back for weeks? What are those people who've already got an eviction order against them supposed to do then, live on the council office steps? confused-smiley-013.gifangry-smiley-030.gif
