You're right gag, the twins are great!!
The chiropractor is private because I have a history of back trouble and the NHS can't do anything to help - only a back op which would only be a 50% chance of correcting the problem but the chiro helps keep it at bay which is why he's been treating for this hip problem since the car accident.
Yes - friends and thanks :AChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
I agree with the last point Giggle has made.
When Mum and I lost our home due to the divorce, she never let it affect me, I now class her as my best friend I am really proud of it and her!
Keep up the good work and your kids will be fine.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Good (about the friends bit)!
It would be dodgy to have a back op under any circumstance as the spinal fluids etc feed the brain and blah blah so if its not totally necessary don't think you should consider it and besides, you'd be out of action for months. Just wait until they invent 'virtual spines' tee hee. I'm waitin for virtual lungs & hips!!!
My mum n dad divorced when I was about 9 or 10 and she moved us away which although both me and my bro hated where she moved us to, I'm glad because to be honest, I never have been close to my dad. Now I'm well old enough to see the real picture and I've had both points of view, I see my dad treated my mum awfully and I have so much respect and admiration for my mums strength in putting up with him. I still admire my mother to this day for everything she still puts up with. She was violently attacked at a bus stop a few months ago, the guy didn't even take her bag, he just beat her to the ground. He's a serial attacker (and no not cornflakes) in the area and much wanted by the cops but they still haven't caught him. She also lost her best friend of 20 years in March and I can't stress enough how much your kids will have admiration for you and your strength coz I still do for my mum. She's one in a million. And she's only 4 foot 9!!!0 -
MOT
I do sympathise with you totally, however as a private landlord myself can I just say that i have been in a similar situation before. I own 15 houses and that is my field of work. Firstly if you and your previous LL signed a 6 month lease then if he gave you a termination letter after 2.5 months for 2 months then you could take him for the remaining rent for the remainder of the tenancy.
Secondly I have been put in a similar situation before, however my tenant came to me and said that all they were getting was ?????? in housing benefit, would I accept that as rent and I agreed, but if they had of paid me nothing then | would have started the evicition process as well. In my eyes at least I was getting something rather than nothing. As I said before this is not getting at you but really you have not really helped yourself in the housing benefit situation. Now if all your other posts want to call me a moron etc as they did with giveusagiggle who only put their own point of view across then that is up to them but I again am only putting my own point of view across and I am not a moron.0 -
Hi tonydav3,
Thank you for your comments which I totally understand, and if I was in my LL's shoes I would do the same. However, depression causes people to act in ways that they wouldn't normally and with me it is that I haven't been thinking straight when it comes to handling my finances - I just 'gave up' when it came to it and survived each day as it came. My main concern was that my kids ate and the household bills were paid. But as I say I appreciate your comments.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
Thanks MOT for your reply, i appreciate that depression makes you do things that you would not want to but why did you not make your LL a offer after all something is better than nothing0

I can't answer that td as I really don't know - a big part of me was so ashamed and I guess I just buried my head in the sand. I did explain to him at the beginning of the the year that things weren't good and that I couldn't afford to stay, he then turned up on my doorstep a few weeks later with a foreign man (that noone knew from Adam) who was wanting somewhere to live for a few months so LL suggested that he move in with me and that DD share my room  .Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0

It's pretty pointless people telling MOT what she could/should/might have done.
She's where she is, and what she needs is support and help to find professional input to make sure she and her twins have got a place to live at the end of all this.
Seperation, problems at work, lack of money etc., make us all do things we wish we hadn't - hindsight and clarity of thought are always a wonderful thing at times, but usually come a bit late!
As the landlord obviously wanted to sell the place, the rent is probably a secondary issue.
The facts are that places like Homeless Person's Units are not supposed to be obstructive - they are supposed to be a safety net and offer solutions, particularly where there are vulnerable people in the household (in this case, the children).
This council appears to have been woefully inadequate in it's response to this.
We appear, at times, to have two groups in this country - the totally inadequate who get themselves a social worker at an early age, have various kids they cannot look after and then sit back and wait for the help that is given.
Work, taxes, responsibility and paying in to the system are alien concepts to them.
Others try (like the OP) to work, do their best for the kids and then they get left to flounder in a system that doesn't cater for anyone trying to help themselves.
MOT - I would investigate all agencies that have been suggested that could help you - in my experience, councils generally don't want hassles from professional agencies, and start to do their jobs properly if they are plagued with calls/letters. (The noisiest wheels get oiled first, sort of thing..... ).
At least if you get into LA housing, the landlords have to act within the law and can't hassle you as your landlord seems to be doing.
Good luck.

Thanks Lin,
Must say that I spent yesterday feeling very low after reading some of the posts on here and went to bed feeling totally useless. But today is another day and I'm hot footing it to the the council to see the HL officer and push her to get things rollingChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
