Welcome SP to the thread - yes everyone on here is marvellous. When I first posted on here I didn't expect one reply let alone the hundreds I have had! I really couldn't have stayed so positive if it weren't for all these great friends I have made on here!

MOT is absolutely right. Who'd have thought that from that first posting all those weeks ago that (a) MOT would still be in the mess she's in right now (b) the LA would be so intransegent about her plight & (c) MOT & I would have made so many new friends, who have given so much support, advice and encouragement? The power of MSE is an absolute marvel. We are saying 'thank you' a lot and whilst those two words seem inadequate to express how MOT & I feel about you all, they are the only words we have and they come from our hearts.
  • Wow, they have turned the story about quite quickly - good stuff.

It's actually quite a long story for a weekly paper.

350 words is usually the max.

From a professional point of view the intro is waaay lengthy and the quotes could be more "killer".

MOT - I'd keep the reporter updated with how things are going, as copy is often short around Christmas and hopefully a positive update on your situation could make a nice front page festive splash.

Grab a pile of woman's mags and flick through for contact emails addresses.
They always have them - "do you have a story? Email etc etc"
Email them the link to the story and ask if they are interested.
They will usually pay between £100 and £1,000 for a good tale.

You have had the same idea as me Princess J. Among my few talents I am also a writer (stage plays and monologues mostly) but I was thinking MOT's story is great material. It is worth trying as it would put some money in MOT's coffers.
  • IT i also have written monlogues and plays. i actually started a creative writing degree but changed it after a year!! Although i havent written anything for a while (need a muse i think!!) i love alan bennetts talking heads

This story is a modern day version of Cathy come home, only lets hope it has a much happier ending. It could serve you well as the basis of a screenplay IT.

    Councillors,.....

I am writing..... story in today's paper:

Love & Kisses from Floss xxx

Haven't sent it yet....how does it look?
Floss, your e-mail is great. The only improvements needed are to fix the couple of spelling errors. :)

    "consituents" - should be "constituents"

    "accomodation" - should be "accommodation"

Just though I'd point them out in case anyone copied & pasted it without spell-checking it first. :)

Can't get onto the 'Your Say' page either- but I'll keep trying.
I'll send some emails too tomorrow (today!) when my brain is working properly!
Well done, hon. Keep strong, babes.

  • Really frustrated reading this thread (well a lot of it as I couldn't get through all 79 pages) as I wish I was a member of this forum back when the original post was made- could have given you some good advice on homelessness etc.

The advice some people volunteered in interpretations of the legislation used by Local Authorities, especially regarding intentionality was not accurate. - EDIT- reading on it seems there has been some very good advice and plenty of knowlegable people prepared to help you out.

Anyway, I'll endeavour to read the rest of the thread and follow your story, I assume 3 months down the line your situation has changed.

Hope everything all worked out well for you in the end! :)

EDIT: Reading more of thread... realising thing haven't quite worked out. I'm going to read on but feel free to drop me a PM if there's anything I may be able to help with.
