And you from South Shields.....should be me who's the Magpie, being born in Newcastle General!
Howaay man, I lived in Ryton (briefly) before moving to sunny Saddleworth - just after the Moors Murders
Just thought I would add I live in Prudhoe so not such a big world after all.
MOT keep going this has been an inspiration to me to pull my finger out and deal with my problems, albeit not as huge as yours :hello:

It is absolutely gorgeous, but it's now commuter belt for Leeds & Manchester....and they've built houses on the field we used to play on!
Bits of the film "Kes" were filmed on the moors above our village, Uppermill, and "Brassed Off" was filmed in some of the villages too.0 -
Wow, they have turned the story about quite quickly - good stuff.
It's actually quite a long story for a weekly paper.
350 words is usually the max.
From a professional point of view the intro is waaay lengthy and the quotes could be more "killer".
MOT - I'd keep the reporter updated with how things are going, as copy is often short around Christmas and hopefully a positive update on your situation could make a nice front page festive splash.
Grab a pile of woman's mags and flick through for contact emails addresses.
They always have them - "do you have a story? Email etc etc"
Email them the link to the story and ask if they are interested.
They will usually pay between £100 and £1,000 for a good tale.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
Gnite MOT, sweet dreams hinney. Youre on the up n up, I can feel it in mee watta! (My nanna used to say that and I still dont know what it means!)
Youre going to have to come up here and walk along our wild coastline to build your strength up again when youre finally sorted.
Hi Floss - ee a real Maggie!!! Can you still say Howay man in the correct way?0 -
Just thought I would add I live in Prudhoe so not such a big world after all.
My maternal grandparents lived in Fenham, my uncles live in Denton Burn, Felling & Ryton, and I have cousins in Gosforth (but they don't speak to us since they moved there!)
Dad's side is Birtley / Chester-le-Street, with a bit of Washington thrown in!
Sand-dancer - I can, but DF laughs at me! My dad still had his accent when he died, despite having been away for 25 years.
We used to holiday at Fenham & visit Whitley Bay, Marsden (when the lift still ran & before the rock fell down) & Bamburgh - crumbs the sea was cold when I was a kid!0 -
Floss - do you think its a postcode thing what MOTs going through? Ive honestly never heard of anything as bad as that up here. Perhaps the councils have no hearts down there?
Gosforth eh?? Name dropper!
Im away to bed now too - Gnite hinney. xx0 -
Night all
Just wanted to say I've emailed all but the Daily Mail with a slightly edited version of Floss' letter.
I hope my contribution helps :wave:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -

I moved to Leeds 8 years ago and barely have a NE accent anymore, but still get the p*ss taken cos I cannot help slipping into dialect
The NE is class. Nuff saidAll comments made and advice given are my own opinions and do not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

I think they just have a much higher demand for social housing down there, because houses are so expensive people cannot always afford to buy as in other areas.
Also, the "wonderful" Right to Buy has not been much help, as poeple will buy a council house at a discount, but the Council cannot build another to replace it, because they have been unable to build ANY council houses until quite recently (and the money all went into the Thatcher lets-lower-taxes pot, along with all the money from ex-nationalised industries like steel, electricity & gas).
And on that note, I'm off to bed!0 -

I hate Right to Buy. I know quite a few people who blagged a council house with the aim of buying it in a few years.
When I left my ex, DD and I literally just had what we stood up in. It took 4 months for Leeds City Council to acknowledge my application(to my old address btw - luckily by that time my ex and I were on speaking terms) and I didn't stand a chance with a Housing Association.
What kind of system is it when you rack up points for he number of times you've had to get the police round to your ex? It is weighted against domestic violence cos it takes a lot before its reported. There may be incidents in double figures but because you only have 1 crime number, you only get 2 points....All comments made and advice given are my own opinions and do not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.
