Trust me as a newlywed, gifts we receive are not the main focus! Sometimes what guests fail to appreciate it that those planning are trying to make the day special for themselves and the guests!! Good food good company good music! Your friend is not obligated to invite you or anyone else. If you feel so aggrieved maybe you should consider their perspective more! Weddings cost A Lot and I think you should attend and give a gift that you want to give ( from the heart) if you are not prepared to accept the invitation graciously you should not attend.

Is she a more expensive friend if you spend all day with her and a cheaper one if you only spend the night?

    Puh-leese.....

I usually work out how much to spend based on how much it has cost to host me.
Full day includes dinner and drinks so more than evening do which might be a buffet only or in one famous case, a cheese buffet (barf).. and a pay bar.

I would only chip in for a group present if everyone was giving the same amount.
