  • Yes your definitly a spoilt little brat from that, obviously think you deserve something for nothing

Theres jobs there but they dont pay you enough to accept, yet your moaning about a lack of money

    Grow up

I'm not sure I made myself totally clear, I can't get any references so can't even get a £3 per hour job, I have already applied twice (should have said that). I also wish to say that I don't think I deserve something for nothing, quite the opposite, I believe nobody should get anything! The government is giving £30 a week to people who spend it on the cinema, pubs/clubs, concerts etc which is such a waste of money that could be better invested (and they work no harder than I do)! I also have no objection to work but simply cannot get any sort of job! I think it is very unfair however that other people manage to get a job and EMA at the same time when I can get neither! Furthermore, it isn't just spending money in a sense, alot of it would be constructive e.g. driving lessons, gym membership etc

My son is in his 2nd year of 6th form and receives the full £30 per week, he also has a part time job of around 10-12 hours a week @ £3.30 per hour.

Last week he had to buy 1 maths book (2nd hand from the college) @ £10 but new it was £20, he will sell it on at the end of his year.
He has to buy 2 calculators, 1 was £6.99 (on offer) a graffical and a scientific (2nd hand pass on) @ £20, but new I have priced it up at £35.

You do sound envious to me. Most of my sons friends have some form of part time job if they are college. The worst off at present is a lad who is doing an apprentiship and gets £2 per hour!

tis the time to start growing up!

edit to say my son works for min wage. some of your facts are a little out!

To answer you, in our school we're given all that so the people who get EMA don't have any of those expenses.

a perfect way to keep higher/further education in the hands of a few.in your 1st post you say those with an EMA are working.how are they managing without a school reference?

yes but their parents are also earning far less and they cant afford to subsidise their kids as much

As for references, what about a family friend or do they not want to give you one?

Frankly you seem rather spoilt to me and expect something for nothing

Your parents earn a lot and should be supporting you with clothes and that, the EMA is there for parents who cant afford it

I also find it very strange any school is completely against work that they wouldnt give out references, most schools ive heard support work in the correct levels

well what do you want the EMA for? The cinema or driving lessons I presume? Why not get a job doing something other than shop work that you need a reference for, gardening, walking dogs regularly, draw on your own skills and teach music for a few hours a week. Theres plenty you can do if your think and try!

  • To be perfectly honest their is no adult that holds a suitable position that I know well enough to ask for a reference that isn't in some way related to me. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how they get jobs , maybe they know someone who works in the same place or something  ? No, I get absolutely no support, I bought all my school stuff myself and haven't got new clothes since Christmas.

Not a bad idea, I used to wash cars but in the end no-one was willing to pay. There is a surplus amount of gardeners and dog walkers already so that's a no and I don't have an special talents in music or anything else to teach. I have been down all these avenue's before, you really won't be able to suggest anything. All I wanted to do was complain that EMA is a waste of time! As for what I would spend it on, that isn't really the issue but as I said before, driving lessons (for example) are educational and not for enjoyment or the sake of spending money.
  • Finally, forgot to say, the school is so much against jobs they are sending out letters and phoning parents to illustrate their anti-job views.
  • What age are you OP?
