You obviously have an obligation to repay the debt.

    However....

The landlord may just be grateful to be shot of you without having to get an eviction and you didn't strip the place for everything of value. Most landlords appreciate that renting to students is high risk, so charge more, put more people in the house and ask for guarantors. Any Landlord who thinks they are going to get every month covered by a tenant is naive and needs to consider the costs of voids, late/missed payments and evictions more seriously.

Given the landlord and agent didn't notice you were several months behind on rent on balance they probably aren't going to pursue you.

Your credit report will remain untarnished, unless than landlord pursues you through the courts. If that happens, it will be a visible mark on your credit record which would be a problem. As you haven't given a valid forwarding address, you may not get any warning that you are being pursued via this process.

If you don't hear anything for 6 years, just get on with your life.

Regarding renting again. Your previous experience will not factor into the equation as you are moving out from your parents. Any credit checks the landlord does will be on your public credit file which only includes CCJ's and bankruptcies.

While morally what you did was wrong, if its not on your credit file, there is no way a prospective LL will know about the money owed unless you give the previous property as a reference check, which I suspect is unlikely to happen.

If your credit file is a mess, you might find it difficult to rent anyway. I'd concentrate on sorting that out before you rent again. It seems silly to take on the expense of renting before you have sorted yourself out.

I would take advice above and stick to Gumtree for renting, not agencies who might link you to that address and question you about it - if you have any cards registered there etc.

Trust me, I tried to omit a landlord who I had a dispute with, when making an application with a lettings agent. They found out about the address but the landlord had done a runner anyway but still. They will find out.

I thought you were all money saving experts

There's a huge moral difference between money saving and outright theft....

Not only a moral difference but a legal one as well.

Not paying a debt is a matter for the Civil Courts but intending to defraud for gain is one for the Criminal Courts.

The OP has provided clear evidence of intent....
what I did was put an incorrect future address in the box...

I've poor credit anyway and another debt would just cripple me when I'm just starting to make amends.

You have an unusual user name.

It would be really ironic if you were using the same user name on the Giff Gaff community forum...
vamoslostres has a question about the iPhone SE

I want to buy the iPhone SE 16GB in gold but you are out of stock. When will I be able to buy it? Thank you
