Possibly a stupid question..Sky and Freeview?

Because recordings are encrypted and you need to pay to have them decrypted.
Rubbish!!! I have three PVRs in my house, each one of them capable of recording any of the Freeview channels. I have no mainstream TV subscriptions. You can even buy PVRs which are enabled for FreeSAT.
Edit: apologies, I hadn't read the next post before responding.0 -
Because unlike YouView, when one cancels, SKY disable the feature and ability to record. And nor can one access recordings either.
Well, if that's the case then I'm actually quite shocked! You learn something new every day!
I don't understand why though considering you can buy Humax boxes with FreeSAT built in!0 -

Thanks again for the replies!
You get the +1 channels with Freesat.0 -
No mention of needing to record in OP.
Wouldn't have been the first person to assume that because the box is still TECHNICALLY capable of recording, that it still will, and indeed, that you can still watch what you've already recorded. You can't. I think it was worth pointing out.Why not?
Because Sky want to make money! And as giraffe69 says, it records the encrypted signal onto the hard drive, and the programme is decrypted, via the subscriber card, whilst playing.I don't understand why though considering you can buy Humax boxes with FreeSAT built in!0 -
If you see cancellation through, are switched off, then subscribe again, any previous recordings are again viewable.0

Am not bothered about HD channels etc, just want the usual free ones without having to plug in the ariel cable, which is currently plugged into my telly upstairs.
I've googled but there's a lot of waffle about Freesat/Freeview and I can't seem to get a definitive answer.
Thanks!
Broadband and line rental is £24.90 ( or £27.40 depend on when you joined) at full price. You should be offered that with freesat (~240 channels) and Sky+ function so recording and terrestrial catchup -iplayer, itvhub, all4, demand5 - all for £22.40 for 12m if you cancel TV.0 -

Aaarggh...I've just got off the phone and have been offered (and accepted) all of the above for £36.40 (incl Talk evenings and weekends). I assume that's because I'm paying £20 for unlimited BB?
TBH, I was quite happy with that as I wanted to get the bill under £40/month...although under £30 would be even better.
I might get back on the phone later on!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Thats nice of them.
The best piece of advice I can give is that if one is going to bin SKY, bin the box as well. Recycled, of course.
And throw away a perfectly good 500gb hard drive! Remove the drive, buy a cheaper enclosure for it, re-format and you've go a handy external hard drive.0 -

I guess this is why Sky have now gone down the rental route for Sky Q decoders. Customers will have to return their Sky Q on cancellation ....0
