Possibly a stupid question..Sky and Freeview?

I'm cancelling my Sky tv services (am keeping the phone/bb) but will I still be able to watch Freeview channels via the Sky box (HD+)?
Am not bothered about HD channels etc, just want the usual free ones without having to plug in the ariel cable, which is currently plugged into my telly upstairs.
I've googled but there's a lot of waffle about Freesat/Freeview and I can't seem to get a definitive answer.
Thanks!

We did this a few years ago when we lived somewhere with an appalling digital Freeview signal, so it used to be possible. From memory there are some channels that are on Freeview that aren't on Freesat and visa versa, but I can't remember the specifics.0

If you leave the card in the Sky box you will get Freesat from Sky channels, similar to Freesat plus about six Free to View (FTV) channels.
Some channels which are on Freeview such as Dave amongst others are subscription on Sky. Some channels such as ITV2HD, ITV3HD and ITV4HD are also subscription on Sky so you wont be able to view them but you will be able to view the SD versions.0 -

Thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to know. We're not really going to miss the rest of the channels, they're mostly HD, +1 or just full of American rubbish about brides and people who collect coupons.

Just one vital detail that I didn't see mentioned - you won't be able to record any more.0

Yeah, I realise that
But with the money I'm saving, I'll be able to afford Netflix or similar!

No mention of needing to record in OP.0 -
Almost a year ago I had a sky TV package and sky broadband. When it came to renewal time, I negotiated to keep the phone and broadband. They offered to let me keep the basic sky TV package (free channels only, BBC, ITV, C4, C5) and the ability for the box to record and catch up.0

Why not? I can still record on my BT box even though I'm no longer with BT. The only thing I lost when I cancelled my subscription was the exclusive BT channels.
Can't see it being any different with a Sky box. It's the box itself which records.0 -

Because recordings are encrypted and you need to pay to have them decrypted.0 -

Because unlike YouView, when one cancels, SKY disable the feature and ability to record. And nor can one access recordings either.0
