Car Insurance - Without Drive Assist!

Da now days often don't make you liable if the third party does not pay unless you do not help them where needed in the recovery or if you miss lead them about the circumstances of the claim. The paperwork you sign must make you liable for the costs for them to be able to recover them.
They often have a seperate insurance policy to make you exempt except for the above circumstances or they give a separate undertaking again excluding the above circumstances.
I suspect DA are just trying to scare you as they are losing out on a lot of over priced hire car.
The chances are the other Insurer will pay it, if not you could always put a complaint into DA (They often back down with a well worded complaint)0 -

that what i thought too, the trying to scare me bit. as it is the garage doing my repairs has said i can have a free courtesy car, just have to pay £26 admin charge to put it on my policy as a temp car, i think i shall do that,0 -
For a laugh give DA a ring as if you're someone who has just had an accident and are after a hire car, give a different name etc ask them about the rough terms and ask the operator would you be liable if you changed your mind and gave the car back early. I would be very surprised if the operator says you are liable. Take a note of the persons name and time of the call, thank them for their help and you will get back to them.
Then file the details of the call in case they come back to you, it will be great ammunition should you need to make an official complaint0 -
Hi all, i was hit by 3rd party last thursday. I was on the main road & he came out of a side road & hit me rear passenger door. Details exchanged & i informed my insurance company who put me through to DA. They agreed that it appeared to be a no fault claim & arranged for a hire car to be delivered today. A peugot 207 was delivered but it was an automatic,3 door & smaller engine size than my car. I told the delivery driver that i wasnt happy with the car, so i wasnt going to accept it.
Having read up on DA now i am quite worried about taking on their car? How easy is it to go through the 3rd party insurers? He is insured with Admiral, DA confirmed this on Friday.
DA said they will call me in the morning to arrange another vehicle but would prefer to get curtesy car if possible.0 -
Give Admiral a call, they happen to be very proactive in supplying hire cars where they accept their customer is at fault. They may be able to get a car out to you tommorow.
The contact numbers are on their website.0 -
Thank you so much for your quick reply. I will call Admiral.0

our car has been written of, not our fault!
Yes we have had to paid our £150.00 excess and are whole years insurance!
We have had a car from Drive Assist which has just been picked up and they are claim damage just over £160.00 which we are going to dispute.
As soon as the man run his hands under the car front i thought this was funny, and he turned to us and said 'your not going to like this'
and he's right!
I'm not happy as when the car was dropped of this area was not checked or inspected and no mention of inspecting this area, other wise i would have inspected all round not just the front.
I feel this is a con!!!!!!!!!!!
we had a BMW registration: YH11 NZC
Has nay one esle had this car or problem like this?
all replys would be most greatful

Hi
I was wondering if anybody could help?
i had a similar experience to the above by BarnacleB yet i was in a 'joint fault' accident on the lanes near my house, a few days after the accident and after i had reported it to my insurers i got a call from drive assist asking if i needed a courtesy car, i had not heard of drive assist before this but after going through an accident statement over the phone and and being assured i would not incur the hire charges i accepted and a couple of days later a 09 ford focus arrived. i was given a handheld to sign regarding existing damage and charges if i caused any more. i cant remember signing anything else although i may have signed a document confirming delivery of the car etc.
Anyway after almost two years and a settled claim i have received a document from solicitors saying they were unable to collect the hire charges etc and that they need my cooperation and without i could face the hire charges and those of the solicitors, they have attached a copy of my accident statement which i have to amend if necessary or return it as it is, on this statement it states that 'i hold the third party fully liable for the accident'. i never wrote this or even stated it over the phone. It also goes on to suggest i said a few other things which i did not. There are also identical copies of my signature on these statements which i did not sign.
These solicitors from what i can make out, are trying to charge me between £2500 - £5000 to 'recover the hire amount', and if they are unsuccessful i will have to pay the £4800 in hire costs on top.
I don't know what to do. I know people are going to say, you shouldn't have done this and should have done that etc i realise this now but for now i could really use some advice on what i can/ should do now
I have signed up to this forum to add an even more long standing story with drive assist as its stressing me so much i need help0
