Car Insurance - Without Drive Assist!

The hire car DA put you in will have cost the other Insurer in excess of £4300 in hire charges...
Let us know in about 6 months when DA are having problems recovering the hire charges and tell you that you have to help them out with the court case. If you have not taken their waiver cover / they are not automatically including it then they may come after you for the hire costs if the other Insurer do not pay them0 -
Case: Minor accident of No-fault where the other driver admitted liability
After the claim, someone calls from DA and says, "we will arrange a courtsey car, ...repairs ...<blah>...<blah>..we will sort out everything" . And in the end, they ask "can I have your debit card or credit card details please!!" ??
What??. Do I need another reason to put the phone down and avoid this company all together?. I honestly hope those people who run this "Drive Assist" business reading this... Based on my experience, my advise is, don't go anywhere near them !
Another observation:
The whole UK motor insurance industry is plagued with no: of players wanting to eat a cut of the cake in the entire claims business.... claims solicitors, injury lawers, motor assits companies, legal help, anything else?
BBC recently showed, a very minor incident where a claim's original work is just to polish and spray-paint job on the front bumper is billed at £3900 to the TP insurers. All this in the end they pass it on to the poor customers....!!! This is just a fact and that's how it is all designed to work...very creative, aren't they ?0 -
One thing that is certain is that DA have not made many changes since BBC Watchdog featured them which is surprising as most market leaders would implement changes and keep to them after an expose like that
Exactly !, How on earth can someone ask for creditcard details without even providing details of this so called "hire car", details of repairs and last but not least asking to sign an "hire agreement" over the phone.
I would rather sing la..la..la over the phone? This company is nothing but a joke avoid yes, AVOID them by all cost!
I wish I could give a copy of trading standards document to their proprietors - only if they have gone to school ? LOL0 -
i really wish i had not come across this thread.
i took delivery of a DA car yesterday after someone reverse into my car whilst i was not in it. my insurance company said they can put me through to DA to obtain a car until mine is repaired.
they made me aware that the cost would be claimed back from the guy who hit me insurance.
the car they gave is brand new (68 miles on clock) and seems to be immaculate.
i'm scared to drive it. i want to cancel as i am within the 7 day cancellation period. i'd rather go without a car that be stung for fake scratches or worse still be told that they cant reclaim the money from the other party.
what shall i do? any advice please0 -
Does it have any existing damage ?0

If you're confident there is no existing damage on the car then they cannot hit you for repair costs to any damage that was there before you took custody of the car. They can only charge you for any damage you actually do.
So personally I would be inclined to use the car, although I may be tempted to contact the other Insurer and ask them if they can provide a car, they should be more than happy to.
One thing to look out for is they sometimes say you did not return the car with the same amount of fuel, so keep the receipt for the final fuel you buy and add to the collection note how much fuel is on the gauge.
Have they given you a written assurance you will not be liable for the costs if they cannot recover the hire charges ?0 -

I think i will contact his insurers, even though i am confident about there being no damage and i am confident i wont cause any i have a very bad feeling about it all!!!
the car was delivered with 1/8 of a tank of diesel, this is on the paperwork as well.
i will make sure that there is slightly over that when i give it back just to save any hassle.
there is no written assurance that i will not be liable. that is the thing that scares me the most. i just have a funny feeling that i will have problems and be stung for the cash!!!!
what reason can i give them for cancelling?0 -
You don't have to give any reason, you're not obliged to have their hire car. If you want to give a reason why not tell them you have read all about them on the internet and watched the program from BBC Watchdog about them, you never know it might help make them pull their socks up.
Don't forget to warn your friends about DA and credit hire, hopefully you can also tell them how easy it was to get a hire car from the other Insurer at a much lower cost to them0 -
now i am starting to worry. da dealt with a claim that was not my fault last march, no probs, but reading through you have me worried as my car got hit from behind yesterday by a 20 year old who had insurance but no license he left the scene but whitnesses got number plate and police picked him up 5 mins later, da dropped my car of today, should i have not used them when shielas wheel s told me too?0
