It'll be fine in a tub with clingfilm. If the breadcrumbs are for crunch on the top then it will still taste good but won't be crispy once its been microwaved. I'd do it all as normal then just reheat it at work. The tomatoes will give it a bit if extra juice although an extra jug of sauce sounds a great idea too!

I've got to ask whats your recipe? I made one last year with chopped fried bacon & leeks in it which was lovely but I like the sound of breadcrumbs and tomato.

Blackpool_Saver: Thank you. I'm sure they would, but it's just kind of descended into a competition lol. And the other ladies are far better cooks than I! Oh well, I certainly won't mind eating it all myself anyway lol

Sunnygirl: Thank you. Basically, I cook the pasta (or macaroni). Tri-colour pasta is my fave :D Then I make the cheese sauce (butter, flour, milk, very cheesy cheese). Once the cheese sauce is done I add some chopped tomates & herbs and stir it in the same pan. The drained pasta then gets added to the pan of sauce and it's all mixed together. It then goes into an oven dish. I then add a few slices of tomato on top. Then I blend or grate a slice of bread to make the breadcumbs and sprinkle on top with a bit more grated cheese, and then pop in the over for about 15-20 min until the breadcrumbs are nice and crispy!

Now I'm getting hungry lol. Best go and make it now!

Thank you so much for the help - it is very much appreciated

when i'm making maccaroni cheese for the next day i normally make the sauce runnier, so by the time it thickens up it's just nice, but nothing beats the fresh out the oven taste :j

Thank you so much for your help all. Sauce all nice and runny and now in the fridge. Panicked because I couldn't find the clingfilm, but it was hidden at the back of the cupboard.

Hope it tastes ok tomorrow now lol

how about cooking pasta and sauce and keeping in the fridge seperatly overnight and then mixing at work before putting in the microwave - this way the pasta wont suck up the sauce and go dry in the fridge.

  • A bit late now, but how about making the cheese sauce tonight. A bit runny as suggested. Then cook the macaroni in the morning, toss it together and pop in the over for a few.

If you have spare newspaper around, you can wrap the dish with foil and then wrap in the newpaper. The newspaper will help keep it warm and then it won't take long to reheat in the micro at work.

However you've ended up doing it, I'll be happy to give it a taste test before you take it to work. :rotfl:

Do let us know how it went Sammy Girl? I'm sure it was all a big success and very tasty!

  • Cook 250g macaroni as per the packet instructions.

Meanwhile heat 25g butter in a pan and stir in 25g flour for a couple of mins. Add 450ml milk gradually and mix in. When it starts to thicken, remove from the heat and stir in 150g grated Cheddar. Add 1tsp Dijon mustard or Lea & Perrins, or 1/4 tsp Tabasco (I ALWAYS use the mustard version - it's gorgeous!) Take off the heat and mix with the drained macaroni.

Grease an ovenproof dish and pour in the macaroni mixture. Top with a mixture of 25g cheddar and 2tbsp breadcrumbs. Bake in the oven (gas 6, 200C, 400F) for 20 mins or so until brown on top (or if you've managed to keep everything nice and hot, don't bother with the oven, just bung under the grill for 5 mins).

I cooked this tonight for my family (3 hungrey children) and they loved it i added crispy bacon and cauliflower to it, and served with green beans and sugar snaps.
Thanks for all the tips :j

I have gradually being converting my boyfriend away from his lifetime of microwave dinners to eating homemade food.
First I cook it then he tries.:)

He mentioned Macaroni and cheese the other day so I have decided to make this for him. I have jamie olivers recipe but it uses parmesan cheese and Im not that keen on that.
I thought probably someone on here would have a far tastier macaroni and cheese recipe.
    Many thanks x
