Cash account from LTSB now with debit card

Most basic bank accounts work with any cashpoint machine though....

It's visa debit apparantly, the lady told me yesterday in the branch.

LTSB cash account card is only usually able to be used at LTSB ATMs and the post office so this to me is a much welcomed change. I don't like carrying cash on me anyway so this will stop me having to do this.. and it won't matter that i can only draw cash out at TSB ATMs as i won't need to very often.

Looks like more and more banks are offering debit cards on basic bank accounts (LTSB the latest one obviously). I wonder why that is. Abbey, A&L, Barclays, Nationwide, HSBC, and RBS are the only banks that offer a cash card with their basic bank accounts. Do you think they would offer debit cards with their basic accounts in the future?

I think LTSB will be popular with their basic bank accounts (VISA debit card), as most people don't like VISA Electron, and rarely Solo. Most people seem to like Maestro though.

Since LTSB is offering a VISA debit card instead of Electron, would that cause people to go overdrawn?

It CAN do, but it's very unlikely now with the introduction of chip + PIN - where the vast majority of transactions are authorised "online" immediately, whether the card forces it or not.

These cards should force authorisation (since they are 2in1 "control" cards) just like Electron does but they don't always.

I e-mailed them about why they replace a cash card with a 2 in 1 VISA debit card in their Cash Account (i.e. basic bank account). It is good that they take into account customers feedback. Here is there reply:

The reason why we introduced the 2 in 1 debit card was because of feedback that we received from our customers about this account.

We continually review the products and services that are available to our customers.

Just got off the phone to Lloyds and they have confirmed that the cash account will come with a debit card now. But he said that i have to wait for my current card to expire, as he cant order me a new one. If i "lose" my card, will i get another cash card, or a debit card??

If the system won't let them order a new debit card - you will receive another cashpoint card.

If you have a look at th LloydsTSB website they are advertising the card to make payment in shops and to obtain cashback.
