Ha Ha Scott – of course you had to read it for research purposes (she comments drily!). :D It never ceases to amaze me though how badly written some best-sellers are. My main case in point is Dan Brown. I liked the premise of "The Da Vinci Code" – historical bent with a detective twist – as you read into the book the layers unfold like an onion – but the standard of wiritng was very bad. You don't expect every thriller to write like le Carre, but....................!

    IT'S PAY DAY TODAY!!!:j:j:j
    Scanning over the past month:

    Scimpy Negatives:
    • Not bad really - nothing untoward spendwise happened apart from yesterday when I overspent on DSis's day out. Expensive cocktails in posh hotel!
    Scimpy Positives:
    • Bought all Christmas cards and bags in sale ready for December! Also stamps for Christmas cards in case the cost goes up this year.
    • Half price boots, which were badly needed, by way of sale and discount code.
    • Cinema trips by way of discounts.
    • £17.50 earned from dress agency;
    • Surveys going up but very slowly - will update score later on.
    Healthy Me-Wise:
    • Lost 1b on Monday which brings me up to 8lb loss so far:j;
    • 5:2 going well - sometimes on 1 fast day per week butI think I busted out yesterday with food and drinks!
    • I could have done with a couple more sessions of pilates but that couldn't be helped. Walking going ok - averaging just over 10,000 steps per day.
Will be back tonight with outlook for February and to catch up on diaries!

I still have 5 more days to payday :( It seems forever since I last got paid.

Well done on losing 8lbs plus all the other positives of the month. It's good to look back and see how you've done :)
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Thanks SA. Christmas just gone seems so far away now - feels like a lot longer than a month since 25th December.

Looking over the calendar for February I have a couple of evenings out - also birthdays - both family and bestie. Pilates in the diary and cinema.

Surveys are slow but I’m now up to £18.38 with PA so hopefully not long now till payout.

I’m also going to look for the side table for my living room.

Today I only spent out on the cinema tickets for Sunday - off to see ‘The Post.’ Tickets now cost £5.50 with The Times discount!

I also sent off my pension transfer docs to my current workplace pension provider so they could check it out.

Tomorrow evening I’m out after work to catch up with two friends so I don’t think the Monday weigh in is going to be great!

  • I think I am probably in a minority of 1 but I think the later harry potters are badly written. Harry is angry. harry shouts a lot. It's the Brian Blessed school of writing IMHO and i gave up in the end.

I agree with Scott about 50 shades being badly written, I read the free sample on the kindle and swiftly moved on to something else.

    Congrats on the 8lbs off.
  • I must say I enjoyed the Harry Potters - just for sheer magic of them - but then they were written for children/ young teenagers and we adults jumped on the bandwagon with them. I wish I’d written them though - all that luverly revenue - hee hee!:D

The 8lbs off isn’t showing yet though redo and considering what I ate and drank yesterday I don’t think I’m going to notice anything next week! Back on the wagon I go on Monday!

  • I thought I was the only one who grew less fond of the potter books. The final one just seemed too contrived

My iPad charger went on the blink so I’ve been offline for a few days.

    Friday
Went out in the evening for drinks and eats with two of my friends that I used to work for. The bill came to £36 each and I took a taxi home from the station as it was late - £5. My retired friend’s task is to research the flights and hotel for our June trip to Cork. Our other friend is going to come along as well and bring one of her pals.

    Saturday
Didn’t do much - felt a bit flat, but did order my monthly shop from Tesco.

    Sunday
Had my Pilates session lunchtime then went for early cinema show with pal to watch ‘The Post” which was excellent. My friend drives us both there so I get the coffees - £5.30.

    Today
Was a bit more spendy. Had to pay out £16.90 for a new iPad charger  also bought my monthly toiletries at Boots (£25.20) and a birthday card for DDOH (£2). Also £10 paid out for monthly lottery syndicate in work.

And been liaising with DD to try and get some dates in the diaries for weekends away, days out, etc.

This week have got my nail appointment and my cousin’s OH’s retirement drinks, which is being held not far from where I work.

Work pension provider confirmed that they can transfer in one of my pensions and are sending more forms! I’ve also applied for an up to date State Pension forecast.

Anyway it’s good to have my iPad back in play!
