Glad to hear the renovation costs aren't as much as you expected but still a large amount. I am determined to be in a better financial position by the time I am 60. My biggest worry is renting in retirement, but will cross that bridge when I get there.

Hope you have had a good week, the weather has been great.

Good news that the renovations were less than expected and that there's some money left in the pot.

    Hope you're having a good weekend :)

    Thanks for popping by everyone.

Hi Hairy –The renovations happen every seven years and it is written in the lease so a leaseholder would be in breach if the payment isn't made. I suppose the freeholder would argue that you have had seven years to put funds aside. Mind you, I didn't hear there were problems with payments last time so everyone must have paid up!

END OF SCRIMPY WEEK 4 - MAY

It's been a week since I posted – must do better!– work has been rather relentless though and I'm also suffering from Game of Thrones withdrawal symptoms!

However, the good news is that out of the £100 Ad Hoc I had put aside this week, I've only ending up spending:
    • £13.47 – Itunes film downloads
    • £4.00 Taxi
So £82.53 over to the Savings pot

Budgeted spends included nails, pedicure, toiletries, a hyacinth pot when I visited my friend and coffees, plus I was so pleased with the white loafers I bought from M&S I've bought another two pairs in tan and navy! The Clothing budget has now gone into slight deficit, but I have justified my purchases because it is so rare that I find shoes that are both stylish, well-made and comfortable! I also bought two packs of thin denier natural coloured pop socks for summer to replace the black opaque type I seem to wear all through the winter!

Last weekend I visited my friend who is recovering from her throat cancer op! She is still having up and down days, but looked so well – so much better than I was expecting. She enunciates her words excellently so I could understand her fairly easily. Two of my other friends were also there and we had a really nice afternoon.

Looking forward to a lovely three day weekend away from work!

  • Well done on the lack of spending this week SSG. I'm glad you liked the loafers so much and agree that it's worth getting them in more colours.

I'm glad your friend is so much better :).

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

    Hi SSG,

I would do the same and get another colour in shoes/boots I love, with my dodgy knee I make the most of it when shoes don’t annoy me :).

The weeks skip by very quickly in between my posts as well. Enjoy your weekend.

    SCRIMPY WEEK 1 - JUNE

...which was Saturday. YNAB pots have all been sorted for the month and I have allocated £100 Ad Hoc spends each week with any surplus going into the Savings pot as usual. This pot includes suitcase money and redecoration. I am going to order the suitcase today and will ring the decorator to arrange a date to come around for a quote, hopefully this week.

I had a nice surprise on Friday as a friend called me and asked me if I wanted to go to the Chelsea Flower Show with her on Saturday. Her son in law had managed to get some spare tickets for the show and entrance to his firm's hospitality suite as he knew she loves the Show. I've not had my own garden for years and years and have never been to the Show but it always looks so interesting on the TV. We had a lovely day -the weather was beautiful and we had the added advantage of the hospitality suite so was treated to a delicious buffet lunch, unlimited drinks and afternoon tea!:j The Show gardens were wonderful - my favourite was the Yorkshire Garden. There was also lots of other things to see - the things you could buy for your garden if you had the funds! Some Of the Chelsea Pensioners in their beautiful uniforms joined us for afternoon tea. I sat next to a lovely man of 87 years who had some really interesting and entertaining stories. Afterwards as it was the last day of the Show there is a general sale of plants and flowers - my friend and I bought some beautiful gladioli, but lots of people had brought collapsible trollies along and stocked up with tons of plants and flowers.

So scrimpy scores on the doors for Saturday was £5.40 for two bottles of water whilst we were walking around:eek: and £5.50 for Taxi from station to home as we were both worn out after all that walking around!

Yesterday I slobbed out and watched TV, caught up with diaries and read. I went out to the cinema in the evening to see 'Rocketman' which I loved. My friend had a gift voucher for the Odeon so we didn't have to pay for tickets. I bought the coffees.

Today is getting down to the housework and ironing I haven't done yet!

Oh and I got a letter from the loan company about my PPI. They apologised and are still apparently looking into it. I will have a decision by the end of June! I'd report them to the Ombudsman but I don't think they'd act for me as the loan was finished years ago. :(

    Enjoy the Bank Holiday everyone!

Sounds like a lovely day at the flower show SSG, and the Gladioli will be a good reminder of it.
  • You day at the flower show sounds absolutely lovely SSG :).
