  • Thanks guys for all your good wishes!

Today is our last in NY. :(. Flying back this evening and land early tomorrow morning.

I'm glad we went to MoMA yesterday - DD didn't fancy a whole exhibition of Andy Warhol at the Whitney so this was our compromise and it was a good call. Saw van Gogh's Starry Night among other wonderful works of art.

The Salvation Army collectors are great here - two were danciing Gangam style and asking people to join in and further up the street another one was dancing full on to "Rocking Robin" - quite a difference to our brass bands - though I still love them best.

We did more mooching in the afternoon - DSis asked me to get an Apple Watch and strap which they are giving as a present - she said her OH wanted an Apple Watch strap as well so I said I would get that as my Xmas gift t to OH. Got a a $50 promotion gift voucher at Apple as well so that knocked down the overall price on everything. I wasn't looking forward to the shopping experience in there but it wasn't as manic in there as usual - still packed but I was out in 25 mins which I thought was good!

Also the same in Abercrombie & Fitch - no queue outside as in previous years - people must be cutting back! DSis is a designers/label aficionado and said that an idea for DNephew could be some clothes at A&F as long as they were in the sale. Luckily A&F had a 30% across the board sale so I got him two sweatshirts and DD got him a lovely red and black plaid shirt plus some cologne for DSis's OH.

DD has bought some clothes for herself but I haven't bought anything for me - because I haven't seen anything I really need or want. I've still to pick up perfume forDSis as my Xmas present to her and if I see anything reasonable out there for my besties I'll get something - but that's it! A rather MSE trip to NY this time round!:)

  • Back home now! The flight home was fine but I was tired when I got off the "red eye" yesterday morning. DD and I showered when we got back to mine then went out and had brunch before she caught her 3pm train at Kings X. I so enjoyed my time with her but will be weekending away at hers the weekend after next so it won't be too long before I see her again.

Kitchen has been rumbling on while I've been away - Had a day off from it yesterday as I wanted to nap when I got back but it's being worked on today and the tiles are in the process of going up on the wall.

I've been sorting out pots on YNAB as I got paid on Friday and have been going through my Xmas pressie list on things still to buy. I'm buying DD a new suitcase for Xmas so need to source that online today among other things.

It's very cold here today - foggy first thing this morning and has now developed into heavy freezing rain this afternoon. I went out to the Co-op this afternoon for a couple of bits and also took a coat to the dress agency that is too small for me and which I've decided I've gone off anyway!

Back to work tomorrow - boo hiss!:(

  • Sorry you've got work tomorrow but at least your kitchen is progressing :). Do you have a working oven yet? We've had horrible weather too.

  • No oven as yet Hairy - just the microwave and hardly any space to use it. . :(. It's annoying as my freezer is quite full but I can't use most of the food at the moment.

Progress kitchen wise has been slow owing to the fact that I haven't been able to have everything delivered at once and it's been awkward to move stuff around, like the fridge and washing machine, in my little kitchen. I'm certainly not an ardent fan of housework. I do it because I like things to be clean and tidy - not because I actually enjoy it! But I can't wait now for the work to finish and I can give everything a good going over. Plus I usually put up the Xmas deccies this weekend but I don't think that's going to happen. :(

Glad you had a good time in NY and were suitably restrained when you didn’t really need something!! Well done, very MSE :money:

It's frustrating but it will all be worth it when it's finished :).

  • Glad you enjoyed New York. Lovely city. We went about five years ago but planning a visit next year.

Your kitchen sounds like it is coming along. Ours started the beginning of November too and is now near enough finished. Completely understand about the difficulties of not having anywhere to store stuff. Our appliances and cabinets went in our garage and were just brought out as they were installed. Not so easy if you live in a flat or have no garage. We had our microwave by the end of week 1 though but no worktops or working sink until the end of last week. Was so fed up of washing up in bath by the end. Luckily our DD2 lives close by and fed us lots.
