Card used without permission - Asking bank to get money back from council.

Given that the relative originally said the rent was £30 and then took £45, how likely is your scenario?Tigsteroonie wrote: »I'm thinking that if it was a fee, then the family member might not have realised she'd be charged at the time of asking for a loan ...0 -

Or at least if ive understood your post, your family member told you £20-30 before using the card, gave you £30, told you £45 had been taken after they'd used the card yet it was actually £48.
I am annoyed at both, but I know because I gave permission for the original £45 I can't get that back. I did not permit the payment of £3 which I hope my bank may be able to claw back.0 -

If you want a refund then you'll have to report your relative to the police for theft and state that she had your card without permission.
Do you truly believe the Bank will otherwise give you back your £3? Your relative owes you the money, no one else.
I'm beginning to doubt this thread is genuine.
Whether you think this post is "genuine" is up to you. As far as I am aware the bank can possibly do a payment dispute and potentially get the money back. I know it is a long shot and probably a bit excessive for just £3.0 -
OP - why on earth should the bank get involved? Nothing at all to do with the bank. You allowed somebody else to use your card. Whatever was charged to your card by the relative is between you and your relative.
Just be glad your relative didn't pay 6 months rent up front!0 -

You do know that the bank will start asking questions, such as how did the card get into the possession of the 3rd party. Once they are aware you were complicit you really can't expect any action from them.Whether you think this post is "genuine" is up to you. What you might want to check is that the council aren't taking future payments from your card - they've been known to do this (to try recoup arrears from any payment details they have at all regardless of why they have those details).
Just a bit strange theres been a separate transaction for £3. If it was a payment fee, I'd have expected it to be included in the initial transaction rather than making a separate charge for it.You keep using that word. Who did you not give permission to?
The person you gave your card to by any chance?
Lettting another person use your card was at your own risk.

I've yet to see a set of T&Cs that considers it negligent to give a third party your card/card details (your PIN number yes, but not the card/details themselves).
If it did, I'd wonder how you were ever supposed to buy anything. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Surely that would only apply for the original £45, not the £3 payment.0
