Card used without permission - Asking bank to get money back from council.

Hello, I apologise if this is the wrong forum section, but the problem is:
A family member of mine had asked me with she could use my bank card to pay her council rent which she said was about £20-£30, I said yes on the condition she pay me back. She gave me about £30 cash, but it wasn't until she got off the phone paying rent where she told me it was about £45 (Included 2 weeks missed rent). I was annoyed as she didn't have any money so I couldn't do anything.
The next morning I checked my bank statement and have found she had used my card to pay an additional £3 pound to the council without even asking or even telling me about it. Having my own financially difficulties, I am extremely annoyed by this.
Now, the question is can I ask my bank to try and get the money back? I am asking because I know there are some things they can't get money back.

Let me get this right...
You allowed someone else to use your bank card and now it is the bank's fault that the third party allegedly misused the card?
Is that right?
Is there anything in the T&Cs that allows you to use your card in such a way?0 -
"You allowed someone else to use your bank card and now it is the bank's fault that the third party allegedly misused the card?"
Please highlight where I said it was the "banks fault". Take your ineptitude elsewhere.0 -
Wow ... didn't take long for toys to get thrown out. OP has a go at one of this board's respected posters.
I'm out. Good luck OP with getting further help.0 -

If you think that "respected poster", who made a false accusation, is correct, then please prove it and I will apologise for my rudeness.0 -
The only place you should be getting your money back is from your family member. Allowing someone else to to use your card will be against the t&c's and as such the bank will probably tell you to foxtrot oscar.0

Having gone through my OP. I don't think I made it clear, I understand the original payment of £45 probably won't be got back as I gave permission for use. But the £3 payment I didn't give permission so would that be able to be retrieved by my bank?0
-
I think post #2 was a bit out of order.
But I'd say the effort required to retrieve £3 is going to be disproportionate; my guess is the bank will be unable to help and the only option would be the courts.0 -
OP, did the council ask to speak to the cardholder and confirm the amount with you as well as your friend having your permission to use the card?
Contact your bank and ask for a chargeback as you didn't authorise it (yes you authorised your friend to use the card for £30, but not for £45 - which makes it unauthorised). If they refuse, ask for a letter of deadlock so you can refer your complaint to the ombudsman.
Your other option is to not do a chargeback and get the person to pay.
Although tbh, I'd reconsider calling them family if they're the type to ask a favour and then take advantage of that favour in a way that screws you personally. I certainly wouldn't be doing them any more favours financially! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Admittedly the post wasn't all cuddles and fluffy stuff but perhaps due to stressing about money, you're perhaps a little more defensive than normal? Just a thought. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
