MSE News: MSE Big Energy Switch Event 5: British Gas £300/yr saving for new &...

My question was rhetorical, and intended to alert users of the CEC comparison tool not to assume that it delivers the best result(s). As (i) my GB Energy supplier's data is consistent and cheaper than CEC, and (ii) CEC appears to have similar communication barriers to MSE, I am not motivated to spend my time investigating further the discrepancy as to why CEC results are higher - I was rather assuming that CEC would -'pick up' on this 'post', do the responsible thing and check for themselves why the CEC results are higher so that they can reassure CEC users.0

Has anyone been charged an exit fee for switching from British Gas to Sainsbury's Energy?

Right question for you guys:
Finally convinced my parents to switch from the pay quarterly when the bill arrives standard tariff because they don't even have to switch from their current supplier and the £300 saving they will make will be nice.
Now the bill is in one parents name but he does not have a bank account and the funds actually come the other parents personal bank account even though the bill is in the other parents name.
So I just realised when coming to switch and about to set up the direct debit. I will be setting up a Direct Debit from the account of my parent whos name is not on the bill.
That point I stopped the process and decided to check on here if it is possible to do that?
Any thoughts or been in a similar situation?British_Gas_Rep_Matt wrote: »Hi Li0nhead, it won’t cause any problems with the switch.
However I'd recommend you give us a call with both your parents present, so we can make sure they're both named on the bills & make it easier for either of them to chat about the account, Cheers, Matt
IF he's talking of British Gas.0 -
My parents have signed up to the new tariff (was already BG customer) but a bit confused by email from MSE stating something about cancelling direct debit - if I'm already with BG will we still have to cancel existing DD? I assume because it's same company it would stay the same?0

Hi Sherbie28
No, if already with BG there's no need for the DD to be cancelled. The existing one will continue as it is.
Hope that helps!0 -
I am completely new to switching as I have been wit SSE for so many years, I have received an email advising I could save £300 quid a year, currently on standard and pay £62 electric and 28 quid for gas, according to the email Eon would be my cheaper option, but says this is an estimate of course so a not sure how this all works, but the unit prices are a lot cheaper than I am currently paying , just a bit apprehensive to switch in case I don't get what is offered.
Still I guess if its fixed for a year I have nothing to lose.
I have noticed from previous posts that some are actually quoted more, is this in certain areas and if so why would that be?
can I just clarify, is this only offered until midnight ?

My toddler is ill and had the day off from nursury which wore me out & i didnt get time to switch and have missed the deal by 1hr. Am so gutted i missed this offer. Now need to find a deal as my Tariff is about to jump up0

Switched on 22nd September, had an email from MSE but nothing from BG, who I am already with on the Feb 17 collective. Anyone else waiting this long to hear from BG ?0

Like you I am swopping from the BG MSE Collective Feb 17 to this Oct 17 BG MSE Collective Switch, I only applied last Friday 30th so I am running a week behind you, so far only I've only received the MSE email acknowledging my application. I'll be interested in the timing of your progress to give me some idea of timings.
Are any other doing the same swop and what is their progress in the process?
P.S. I would have applied earlier as I mistakenly thought that the switch would be more or less immediate if already a BG customer.0 -
Perhaps I was lucky: I apply on Wed 28/09 from "BG Collective Feb". Electricity switched on Fri 30/09 and gas on Sat 01/10.0
