Had a bit of a batch cook today and made 10 portions of chilli so some for tea and some for the freezer - handy to do this when I'm making something so I have a handy meal ready for bad days!

What are your favourites tips for things to do to make those bad days better?

Thanks ever so much for your good wishes and hugs - am sure the good vibes helped!

Been treating myself very gently today - but with yoga and wheatbags pain level is almost down to normal. At least I can now sit and lie in comfort!

Even managed a small walk for half an hour (with a sit on a convenient bench in the middle!) Then a small glass of wine to act as an anesthetic - I am not allowed to take painkillers as was over prescribed them in the past so have to use alternative methods.

Still (counting blessings) at least I now have the time to look after myself!

More of the same tomorrow (yoga and wheat bags - ergo may give hoovering which I need to do but its not that bad) but a new (potential) friend is coming round for coffee (for the first time) so that is something to look forward to. :)

Does anyone else agree with this statement?? I found that my new friend coming round helped me to ignore the pain (yesterday) and that on my gentle peramble today I a dog walker to whom I had chatted before was a good incentive to walk that little bit further while chatting. Doggie was lovely to talk to as well. :j

Candy girl I'm sure your lovely pup will help you along with mood and effects of illness. I am so envious!!! :o

Next week I am off to my friends house to dog sit for a week (she and her Mum are going on a coach trip together - they do this every year) I am so looking forward to my furry companion for a week! She is just lovely and obedient little woof - bless her!

    Yes and no.

I find it can help on an okay day, but on a day when I'm really struggling company can push me into feeling worse.

EG - my shoulder has been hurting me for the last few days. I've been pottering around being careful with it, but it's likely it's going to flare before it gets better (posttraumatic arthritis in the joint).

OH knows that in a day or two I might become very withdrawn and spend time in the spare room without the kids. He just leaves me be.

I need to take the 'superman' painkillers and relax (release tension) when my shoulder flares. I can't do that around other people because I'm too worried about not snapping at them or 'seeming' lazy or being encouraged to join in a game and ending up hurting more.

For me, just taking a day to relax and let the pain pass, works - My doctor calls them “duvet and chocolate days.”
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

Candygirl Bonnie sounds fab - please give her a cuddle from Auntie Wolfy. :o

Lynplatinum in answer to your question - for me, a definite NO. At least, not human company. Canines only when I'm hurting; I can't cope with trying to make intelligent conversation as well as deal with my extreme nervousness around people when my pain levels are up. (I have very bad social phobia, and though I'm good at bluffing my way through being with other people, I suffer severe "fallout" afterwards, in that I relive the whole thing over and over and over again in my head, dissecting every part of the conversation to work out who I offended, how many inane or totally idiotic things I said, et cetera and ad nauseam, til I nearly drive myself demented).

Ariarnia I hope your current shoulder pain lets up soon - sounds like you're more like me, take yourself off somewhere to "lick your wounds" in private.

Update - GP has told me to cease and desist taking Gaba immediately, and she's flagged it up on my record as not to be prescribed for me in the future.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Hello all . Finally able to type again . Thanks to the brave souls keeping the thread ticking over . LW You seem to be having a very bad time right now . As one who's just got back the use of an arm and shoulder I empathise very much . I hope you feel somewhat better soon .
LynP I was longing for a wheat bag over the past 2 weeks . I've always been aware of them but a hot water bottle used to do the trick until this time when I couldn't hold and fill one safely . As the pain started in my right shoulder and moved down to my elbow and into my spine I needed heat around my neck and back . I was in no fit state to go out . I would be interested which one you or others on the thread use as I know they can be a bit of a fire risk in some instances .
Prinzess I will send good luck vibes that you will get to move .
LW Just noticed you have been taken off the Gaba , hopefully you will feel better as a result .
Take care all I need to catch up .

Hi Pollyanna. I don't like the smell of wheat bags but I have two of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001RXNF92/ref=mp_s_a_1_7_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1476030136&sr=8-7&keywords=heat+pack

One lives in the freezer and when I take it out to use it, the other goes in so there is always one cold for use. The one not in the freezer at any given time can be used hot though I personally find ice packs more soothing than warm ones. You can buy a Velcro sleeve for them to fasten in place round a knee or other joint.
