I've been trying to do some exercise at home the past few days and I think the pain in my hip (from Fibromyalgia) seems a little better. Strange, maybe because I'm strengthening my other muscles.
It's just an American walking video from YouTube but it's quite easy to do. There is a 1,2,3,4 and 5 mile one. I've only managed to do 2 miles at the most so far!:p Better than nothing.:DCan anybody tell me what all these numbers are which appear in some posts after an exclamation mark. or occasionally elsewhere? I've noticed them on several posts in different threads and have no idea why they appear or what they're supposed to represent?
I'm not sure, someone was saying that it is a glitch to do with posting on an iphone or something?0 -
They don't mean anything at all - I'm not sure why they are happening on only some posts (as Wednesday says, it may be to do with the device used - I only ever use a pc or laptop); but it's a bug in the system somewhere. Annoying to be sure, but just ignore them if you can.Can anybody tell me what all these numbers are which appear in some posts after an exclamation mark. or occasionally elsewhere? Candygirl good to see you back in your "proper" form.
Wow, 15 - Buddy's doing well. Give him a cuddle from his Auntie Wolfy - and one for Bonnie, too.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Are they the Leslie Sasone Walk at home videos? I started doing them in January two or three times a week. The shortest one only takes about 15-20 minutes, but it seems to me an excellent way of slowly building up some fitness and stamina, especially on days when it’s too cold to wet to go outside. You don’t have to spend any money on Keep Fit classes or get changed to go out somewhere so fitting them into your daily routine is much easier.
There,s also a Jane Fonda YouTube “One mile walk for seniors” which is worth trying for anybody wanting to start building up some fitness.0 -

Yes, that's right.:) I find them quite good and I feel like I am getting much more of a workout than just walking outside as you have to wave your legs and arms around.2025 GOALS

It’s pouring with rain here so not a good outside walking day and “walking indoors” does remove the easy excuse that no exercise is possible on these days.
I’ve doing these about three times a week now since mid January and like to think they’re making a difference. Its frustrating I can’,t measure the additional energy I think I might have gained on a scale but am hoping the fact I’m managing to tackle more chores now means it’s working.
Has anybody been following Dr Rangan Chattergee recently?. He’s the GP who had some TV health programmes last year trying to wean patients off a lot of their medication by proving that lifestyle changes could actually reverse or ameliorate many of their long term conditions His book, the Four pillars of Health,(Relax, Eat, Move, Sleep) makes interesting common sense reading and his website where you can sign up to listen to some interesting podcasts with various health experts is worth visiting.
I like his suggestion of “exercise snacking”, ie just building it into your daily routine if you’re busy by doing things like dozen squats in the kitchen while waiting for your morning tea kettle to boil. The “just walk” principle with the arm raises could work on the same principle. It,s just about learning how to change our routines slightly to get the best health benefits from them. (A dozen squats with your trolley while waiting in the supermarket payment queue might raise a few eyebrows but might encourage a few others to join in !:rotfl:)
With the NHS in such a bad state financially, people being encouraged to take more responsibility for their own health can surely only be a good thing., especially as we are the ones who benefit!0 -

Thanks for the reminder and I just ordered his book.:o
I have seen him on TV once as I read he did a programme about my condition, fibromyalgia.
I saw that some people online were annoyed as they felt like he was saying it wasn't a real condition. I didn't really take it that way when I watched it.2025 GOALS

I watched his programmes and didn,t think he inferred that at all. I think he was expressing the frustration that GPSdo not cover a lot of medical philosophies and conditions like this (and chronic fatigue syndrome is a good example) at medical school so don!!!8217;t necessarily understand how what happens in one area of the body affects or is conditioned by another area, or another organ.
It seems to me today that Pharmaceutical companies have an increasing foothold in the medical environment these days and can make huge profits on drugs which can apparently improve or control a condition, so obviously have a vested interest. As he says, that is one route, but surely preventing or ameliorating a condition by natural means and lifestyle changes is a better long term option. Sometimes drugs are definitely needed and if they save lives, we should welcome them but learning how to control our bodies and health naturally is surely a better option.
I think what he is saying basically is !!!8220;Give it a try. You!!!8217;re in charge of your body. See if it works best for you!!!8221;.0 -

Yes, I think I have mentioned on here that I was on two different medications since I was diagnosed last year and now I'm off them both. Now I only take melatonin at night.
I think some of the people online felt negatively as they had seen a lot of unsympathetic and unhelpful doctors. I can't remember where I saw the discussion now, but some people were definitely annoyed.
The woman in the programme worked very long hours and didn't take any time for herself, as I recall, it's not wonder she was exhausted, even without any medical conditions!2025 GOALS
