Petrol - no means to pay declaration?

  • Tell the company you work for they need to pay for the fuel for you to continue working. Pass the declaration to pay on to them. What happens when this fuel runs out?

I guess the OP will have found an alternative petrol station that does take the card.

Perhaps he assumed that your fuel card wasn't the only form of payment you had on you, assuming that you carried a credit or debit card as well?

Doesn't seem a ridiculous assumption, tbh.

Yeah, if your company is paying it anyway, he'll have assumed you'd pay in some other way, and was just trying to save you a bit of time.
  • SO WHY DID YOU STAND THERE AND WATCH ME FILL UP MY TANK AND NOT COME OUT AND LET ME KNOW BEFORE YOU TURNED THE PUMP ON?????

    Do you really think that:
a/ The employees there can remember every single customer who uses the place on a regular basis and what methods they use for payment? and
b/ Even if they could remember, it's very unlikely that they would take more than a fleeting glance at their CCTV before switching on the pump once a customer had removed the nozzle and the chances are that they wouldn't even have recognised you from the images on their screen.

Most, if not all petrol stations have displays on the pumps showing what payment methods are accepted there.
Did the garage in question have these? and if so, was the Keyfuel logo still showing?

Are things so desperate for you that you can't lay your hands on 50 quid in seven days? Or are you just having a rant? If it's the former, you might want to head over to the debtfreewannabe board for some practical advice.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

You won't get arrested op. It's a civil matter. This clearly isn't theft of any sort!

I have some sympathy for you. They have always accepted a specific form of payment so unless their signs atate otherwise it's perfectly reasonable to assume they will take it!

People are saying you shouldn't have assumed or should have had other means of payment... But what if those same people was paying with a debt card and the shops card machine was down? An awful lot of people would be in the exact same position as you, not many have a lot of cash on them these days and they'd certainly be moaning at the lack of notices!

It's the garages fault if they can't make payment details clear.

I'd be speaking to my employer to see when they can pay it, then go in to the store and tell them when it will be paid. If they don't like it then tough, it's not your fault.

It could also be argued the debt isn't even yours as you was acting in the capacity of an employee, as such the debtor is your employer.

If you can't find 50 quid within 7 days, what are you going to do if you boiler packs up, pick up a speeding ticket or your washing machine bursts into flames?

    That's none of your business!

Millions of people in this country are barely breaking even. People can't just pluck money out of their !!!!!!!

No, people are saying that the cashier couldn't have done anything but assume.

The OP payed for fuel with a very specific and niche payment card. It is eminently reasonable to assume that somebody is likely to have other forms of payment on them.

Your debit card analogy is a poor one, precisely because debit cards are so widely accepted that they have supplanted cash, and actually reinforces why the cashier's assumption was perfectly reasonable.

Not being able to access £50 to pay for £50 of fuel within seven days is a very unusual case - especially where the fuel card is a business one. The majority of people would be offended if people DID assume they were so financially restricted.

I didn't just ask if the staff remembered every customer.
I asked if they remembered every customer and the method of payment they used.
Just because someone always uses the same way to pay for goods, I wouldn't expect the staff to remember it after all, they are probably dealing with many hundreds of different people during their time at work.

    You're wrong there, sir.

It's not my PROBLEM but the OP made it my BUSINESS when they whinged on a public forum about the world not revolving around their precarious financial situation.
