Hi guys
I'm new to the site but please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place but I could do with some help.

I booked a holiday with my family and our tickets said sun 28th @ 00.35 thinking it meant the Sunday night I called the holiday company first thing Sunday morning to ask a few questions. One of those questions were is the flight definatly tonight just after midnight they said yes. Not knowing we already missed the flight as it was Saturday midnight we set of to check in about 10pm as advised by the company when I called on Sunday morning. Cut a long story short missed the flight incurred about £900 worth of costs including £625 to get on another flight. Anyone got any advice how I can claim some money back any help would really be appreciated.

I really don't think you can claim back.

But the holidays board would be a better place to ask than Discussion Time, this section's more for discussing the news.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Why would thing it was Monday morning?
you even state yourself the flight is on Sunday.
If it said 0100,0200,0300; would you think these were also on Monday morning?
  • Why would you think 00.35 was the night, and what recompense do you want from a company because you do not understand the 24 hour clock? As your post is not very clear, one can only assume your phone call was equally confused. We all make mistakes in life and yours just happens to have cost you some money.
    Been away for a while.

Unfortunately as you misunderstood the 24 hour clock and by time you called them it was already too late even if they got confused as well I don't see that you any come back.

Airlines are under no obligation if people miss their flight due to turning up at the wrong time.

It was 00.35 Sunday morning, there is no such thing as 00.35 Sunday night as that would be monday morning. Midnight is the start of the next day, so at Midnight Monday didn't you notice that the date changed and no longer matched the date of your flight?

Your flight was not Saturday midnight, Saturday midnight was over twenty four hours before your flight.

It is an easy mistake to make.

For instance, in the Radio Times, listings for programmes past midnight on, say, Friday night, are listed under Friday night, not Saturday morning.

One does tend to think of times that close to midnight as belonging to the day that's just gone.

However, with things like flights, it is very different, and a strict 24-hour timing applies.

You can try asking for some money back, but at the end of the day, (no pun intended), it was your mistake, so anything given by the airline would be due to goodwill only.

    Who booked the flights?

The most you could possibly claim for would be the taxi fare to and from the airport on the Sunday evening. Arguably, when you called the travel agent first thing on Sunday morning, they should really have told you the flight left over six hours ago. The fact they didn't means, maybe, just maybe, you could claim for a wasted trip to the airport.

Wouldn't give much for your chances, though - after all, besides being responsible for the flight time screw up, you're also partially responsible for the wasted taxi screw up.

On a more general point, this sounds like a wind-up. No one would seriously not understand the 24hr clock and try to blame someone else for the ignorance...................would they? Welcome to 21st century Britain.

Depends on what question was asked of the travel agent ...

"Does flight XYZ1111 depart tonight just after midnight?" "Yes" (because it's a daily flight, uses the same flight code every day)

"Does my ticket for flight XYZ1111 on Sunday 28th 00:35 definitely depart tonight just after midnight?" "No" (because it's already 09:00 on that Sunday, it's already departed)

I agree, this has to be a wind up.

    Not necessarily.

On year, when admittedly I was very distracted with all sorts of stressful family stuff going on, I heard the announcer on TV reminding us that the clocks go forward at 1.00 am Sunday, and I had it in my head that that was Sunday night, not Saturday night.

I'm no twit, but stuff happens! :D

I used to work for the OU when it broadcast lectures in the wee small hours. Quite a few students mistook, set their recorders for Tuesday night (i.e. Wednesday morning) when it was really Tuesday morning.
