Should the taxpayer really be paying for tablets that contain no active ingredient?

I would rather my NHS £ went towards some of the newer cancer treatments that have actually been clinically proved to work at levels over an above placebo effect.

    Just a thought.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

An open mind is a great thing so long as you don't allow it to be so open it can be filled with rubbish. Homeopathy is clearly just placebo.

I agree with Toothsmith, there are much better things for NHS funds to be spent on.
  • Thx Mumfy,

A few years back my mom was seriously ill and the doctors in hospital told her that they could not do anything for her. She then went to a homeopthic doctor and she was cured. It was not as simple as it sounds as it took some time for the medicine to take effect but she eventually got cured. In my experience and personal opinion, Homeopathy is the best remedy my mom could have had, otherwise allopathy would have just drained all the energy out of her and still it wouldn't have cured her.

Homeopathy just needs beleiving in, and I'm glad that someone has helped me to put this point forward - thx mumfy.:T

This is far from being proof that homeopathy worked. People do get better unexpectedly. Maybe previous conventional medicines had worked but showed a while to show. There are so many variables here you cannoy conclude anything.

Homeopathy can have some effects if you believe it will, because it is simply the placebo effect.

Homeopathy even has effects if you don't 'believe' in it.

But it will never help more than 20-30% of people. The exact same number helped by 'dummy pills' (Placebos) in medical trials.

Should doctors be allowed to give 'dummy pills' to patients that real pills haven't been invented for yet?

If so, then the need for homeopathy would disappear overnight.

    P.S.

Many years ago, I went to see a homeopath about a skin condition.

    Made no difference whatsoever!

  • Hi Toothsmith,

I didn't say that homeopathy would "cure" everyone, but it was a great help in treating my mom's condition when all the allopathy doctors gave up on her, and she has never looked back since. So clearly homeopathy works for some.

    Of course it does.

    20-30%.

    Just like dummy pills.

  • i used to give homeopathic tablets to my old rescue pony to help her with a variety of conditions. it worked really well.

i expect it was all in her mind and the placebo effect as well!
  • hi toothsmith,

where exactly did u get this so called figure of 20 - 30% ? coz there are some countries in the world that homeopathy depends on more than allopathy. Some people think that because they are doctors or dentists then they know more than the average person....
