Anyone used Record bar rental in Mallorca recently?

We're renting a car in Mallorca next week via Holiday Autos. I've just changed my vehicle from a Ford Ka to a VW Golf because it was cheaper than the original price that I paid for the Ka when I booked it back in April, but have noticed that the supplier has changed - from Record to Gold Car. Having read the feedback on Gold Car here I'm keen to avoid them, so was wondering whether anyone had recent experience of renting from Record in Mallorca?
Record now have a Ford Ka advertised for the same price as the VW Polo from Gold Car, and despite it having a tiny boot I'd be much happier if it means avoiding Gold Car.
BTW title should be "car" rental not "bar" rental!

Check out Vanrell, all straight forward without the tricks and nonsense of others.
Do a search for reviews etc.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Just checked Vanrell and their cheapest vehicle for that period is more than double the cost being quoted by Holiday Autos, and 3.5* the cost I've just seen quoted on doyouspain.com, who I just saw recommended on TripAdvisor.
Now I know that the low end companies are cheap for a reason, but a 200-300% premium would actually make it cheaper to take taxis.0 -

If you want to consider RecordGo, go directly to their website. There you will be able to see the way that they operate.
Not unlike GoldCar, they charge you for a tank of petrol in advance...and claim to refund you for anything that you don't use, minus 24€(included in the rate if you book direct).
You need to have a credit card in so that they can ringfence 950€ on it and you will need to purchase stand alone car hire excess insurance to go with the booking.
So be prepared.
They most definitely don't want to be associated with the practices of Goldcar and claim to be transparent in their pricing.
Booking direct they have a Ford Fiesta for £106. The tank of fuel will be from £50 to £60.
Standalone car hire excess from £20 to £30. If you are likely to rent again with 365 days, consider an annual policy.0 -

Thanks - I've just done that. If I opt for their full insurance option it comes to 322 Euros, which is in line with the better-known rental agencies' prices. 130 Euros for the "basic" insurance option. At this point I'm wondering whether taxis would be a better option, even if we are an hour's drive from the airport (at Cala D'or)???0 -

You are not reading what I am writing.
Buy standalone insurance and allow them to block the 950€ on your CC. Forget about their expensive insurance.
Of course if the price without their insurance is still too high for you, perhaps you don't need a car for your hols.0 -

Sorry I should have explained....I was looking at their own insurance option as I've been reading elsewhere that most of the "issues" with these companies arise when you refuse to accept their aggressively-promoted insurance when you pick up the car. When this happens they have been known to get up to all sorts of tricks to recover costs by either not refunding the damage deposit without a lengthy fight or even worse charging damage costs for every scratch and chip on the car (including the ones that were already there when you picked it up).
At this stage I'm balancing the cost vs hassle/stress factors.0 -

Why should you care about their stupid tricks? That's why you buy standalone insurance. Just make sure they give you an invoice for any claimed damage.0 -
Even for the reputable companies, I go over the car with a fine tooth comb, even though I have insurance. I make sure that everything is documented
We don't leave until we are satisfied. Both on pick up and drop off.0
