That's a great deal wanttobeSE, don't think primark clothes would fit me I'll need wait until I'm down a few sizes! Good luck on your second run! I'm just about to leave for mine as well.
indesisiv you don't need headphones but it is handy to hear what she is saying. Mine dosent play music so I sometimes put the programme into the treadmill so I can watch and listen to TV while I run.0 -
Good luck all on your runs today. I hope its cooler for you all than it is here. My run last night left me still boiling over an hour later.
I only asked about the headphones as I know loads of people who used to run listening to music but have stopped since UK athletics made it a rule that you can't use headphones in races on open roads.
Nearly everyone that used to listen to music has found that it was easier to run without the music.
Totally understand it on a treadmill as they are terminally boring!“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Woo! Just finished my run (week 5 day 2, 3x5min walk, 2x8min run), feel great! I didn't pause once and went up to 8kmph at some bits - I actually think that made it a little more interesting. Now I need to de-sweat before my yoga class lol. Using my new mat - can't wait haha. Have a great run everyone!0

Had a Strange run this morning!
Got half way around the trail and found a bullock roaming around on the path!
I am terrified of them, so i promptly turned around (before he saw me)! You'd think I'd be used to all sorts of cattle, being Cornish and all :rotfl: But i am so scared of Bullocks!
But i still got the run done, so all good
Running socks were a great idea, no problems with hurting feet today. I plastered up my heels too, to cover the blisters from Monday. Much more comfortable!
But oh the heat!! I cannot cope with heat, and it was far too warm for my liking. It's very hot and sunny here in Cornwall today.
Looking forward to Friday or Saturdays run. I'll probably go on Saturday during the day. My 12 yr old wants to come with me
Sweetilemon- glad you had a great runHave you been practicing Yoga for long? I've always wanted to go to a class!
indesisiv- i didn't know that you weren't allowed to run on the roads with earphones in. I guess that's to make sure you stay aware of traffic? Luckily around my trail, we only have to worry about cyclists, segways...and the occasional cattle0 -

I hate cows fullstop! We were do our speed training on common land in the summer and there are a lot of cows on there. I thought I was sprinting flat out until a cow chased me ... then I suddenly realised that I can actually run a lot faster than I thought :rotfl:WantToBeSE wrote: »Running socks were a great idea, no problems with hurting feet today. It is only in races, and it is not just because of traffic but also being able to hear instructions from marshals and other runners. There is nothing worse in a race when you are running flat out and someone steps out in front of you because they couldn't hear you coming.
PS well done on your run this morning :T“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

nice to see some new names
sweetilemon - kudos to you for doing this on a treadmill I am in admiration, for me it takes so much more dedication to run on a treadmill than outside. as others have said do not worry about pace the idea at this stage is just to complete the 30mins,
wantobeSE - hope you found some clothes I am going into town on saturady so will see if I can find anything [STRIKE]suitable [/STRIKE]cheap
Ericsmun - the idea ti to have a rest day in between so run three times a week. If you look back through the thread I got some wrap around ear phones which I find are better. Are you following the plan or just thinking about about it?
indesisiv - yes you can print the planner but at this stage it is run 60 second walk 90 seconds therefore so much easier to have someone to tell you when to change otherwise you would be staring at phone/stopwatch constantly. Also the background music changes beat for the walking/running segments so it helps you along.
I ordered myself a book (I am a sucker for books) just a used copy for £2.20 so it wasn't a lot. I have prime so it should be delivered today https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0671017039/ref=tmm_pap_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=&sr=
Yes, I'm just thinking about it ! it will be my next step in my health and exercise programme. My GP encouraged me to lose weight (4 stones in the last 2.5 years) and take up exercise (he put me forward for 6 months free council gym membership and 2 years later I'm attending all sorts of classes plus swimming and the gym itself).
I've never run because I'm frightened of tripping - I'm so clumsy !
I've just nipped over to Amazon and bought a copy of that book you mentioned (also a used copy £2.68), thanks for that.0 -
week 1 day 2 complete
Its (very) hot here still, too hot I did remember sunscreen and water. I took it easier today evidenced by the fact that I covered half mile less than Monday, but thats fine I have found my pace, the idea at this stage is to just get round without killing myself, not how fast/far I go.
Ericsmun - well done on your weight loss. You sound so busy are you sure you will have time to fit in running? just reading what you do makes me knackeredMy book came, its american so not all will be relevant but for the price it seems decent, the kind of book you can dip in and out of the bits you want.
wantobese - no cattle here but I did come across a rather hot, muscle clad bloke. Luckily I was doing a running segment at the time at the beginning of the session so I picked up my pace and tried to look like I knew what I was doing :rotfl:
ilovebaking - you didn't fail you just missed a session, you can carry it forward to next time.
indesisiv - thank you for the tip about laces I will google it.0 -

I'm a lady of leisure having retired early ! Plus sadly my Mum died in March and I was her main carer. I have been struggling to get into some sort of routing since then as I used to plan my day around popping to Mums twice a day, her shopping etc.
So the classes have helped me and I'm tempted to add something new. How I'll fare in winter I don't know !!!0 -

Thanks for that! Will remember that for tomorrow as I will be back out in the morning! hoping it's not so hot, it's flipping boiling up here! Am I the only one that can't wait for autumn to hit? I can't wait to curl up in blankets on the sofa and light candles and eat warming soup. Although I probably won't be saying it in a few weeks' time!
Think I'll head to Primarni at the weekend by the sounds of it and get myself some things. Might pop in to the running shop as there's a good one opposite as I probably need new trainers- I have slightly dodgy feet with high arches and need good supporting shoes generally let alone when I'm running!
Hope you are all having good weeks! Keep going everyone, we will all get there! :T:T:j0 -

Sorry for your loss.
Autumn is a good time to start running, its not too cold but (in theory) not too hot. By the time the cold weather gets here if you start soon as long as you take to it you will have gotten into it enough to want to go out whatever the weather. I used to like running in the snow with it crunching underneath my feet when nobody else was around.0
