W1R1 today. ...total newbie!!!!! Took one of my children with me for support as I am very self conscious, hoping to eventually do it on my own and get to the end of it. ....

Hello all, I was attracted to this thread by the mention of C25K, which I've been doing for a couple of weeks. Until the day I started it I was convinced I am Not A Runner. Now I try to slip those magic words 'When I went for a run earlier' into conversation :D.

Are you still running? Did anyone celebrate 'graduation' with a park run? I don't see myself as Park Run capable even with all the enjoyment and endorphins I've gained from C25K so far. My two grown up sons go on park runs and they run like hares. My daughter runs too: her idea of a nice morning is half a marathon (followed by gym in the evening). For some reason I run alone - but it would be nice to chat to others at a similar level to myself.

    Hi Cherry

I started by doing the C25K last April and yes, my aim was to be able to run a parkrun. Which I did, although it took longer than 9 weeks to finish the C25K!

Please don't be worried about parkruns, my hubby and two sons are also runners and they can't treat it like a gentle run so they don't do many but I go at my own pace. They're not even just about running anymore, we have quite a group of Nordic Walkers at ours and there are plenty of people who walk/run.

Have fun with the C25K, it's great a few weeks in to remember how awful the first few *runs* felt :rotfl:

No runs over the weekend but a cheerleading class and 1hr 40 mins of moorland walking with DD, who's super-fit. So I don't think I've lost ground even though I've been living it up. :D
My next C25K will be W3R1. I've read that the end of W3 is a sudden step up in difficulty so I'm trying to make myself as ready for it as possible, repeating earlier sessions rather than moving up in the hope that 'more often' = 'more used to it'.
If I'm still repeating W3 in a couple of months time, someone will need to tell me to stop hiding from the challenge!

  • Great thread, just read through a fair bit of it and its given me the motivation to start running again.

Has anyone done the whole thing on a treadmill? I'm a bit time restricted due to a 2 hour each end commute I do, but I have a gym in work I can use and am going to start using the treadmill in there.

    First day today!

    Good for you Jimmy!

No treadmill experience here but it should be okay, as long as your phone recognises you've moved. I'm not sure how that works to be honest.

There is no reason why you can't do it on a treadmill at all. Crack on and enjoy :T:T:j:j

I'm sure it's do-able - I will make you envious when I post about running in the spring sunshine, and you will make me envious every time it rains, the temperature goes too high or too low, it's windy or you go on to use some gym equipment that comes with the package!

Let us know how today went. :)
