Windows 10 Update RANT.

Options
Hi all,

I've just been using my laptop for various tasks, owned it about 9 months, does the job works perfectly etc. Have a browser with many many saved bookmarks, set up to remember me on loads of pages, quite a few downloads of pictures, documents etc.

I just went downstairs to grab a bit of dinner and to my horror I came back to be greeted by the horrific blue screen of 'Windows 10 update'

So it's been working away for 20 minutes doing god knows what 'Were making some improvements' etc etc !!!!!!!!.

I come back on and my wallpaper is missing.. alarm bells are ringing already.

My browser (chrome) is missing.

Spotify is missing.

All my bookmarks, websites are all gone.

All my downloads that I kept in the downloads folder are gone.

Then to rub salt into the wound Windows 10 be like "We've made some great improvements - see here to see what we've done!"

And they've added absaloute pure !!!!! - Cortana from before the lock screen? !!!!!!? I have that !!!! disabled anyway.

Default browser microsoft edge

Mouse settings now slow again.

Sorry I just needed to have a rant - has this happened to anyone else?

How the !!!! do Microsoft see this as acceptable? No warning?

Was it not Shakespeare who wrote,
    "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Microsoft, not to praise it.
    "?

It's unfortunate that Apple are copying Samsung in trying to do and make everything. Microsoft are copying Apple in trying to make everything work as they think it does.

I had the same thing this morning, but having already seen your thread I was forewarned! It still set up my keyboard as US English though, so I had to change that back.
  • So frustrating! I dread to think how many elderly people got confused. Heck, I'm half PC literate and even I got confused.. lmao.

Linux Mint is a much better operating system than Windows. Easy and stable. Gets the job done.

In most respects I must agree. I have my W10 laptop with me on holiday and live in dread of it deciding to do the anniversary update while I'm on a slow connection and unequipped to take the necessary precautions (backup, etc).

Meanwhile my old laptop, on Linux Mint, is operating at home as a download server and general dogsbody. I fully expect it to run without supervision for the next month. I could never leave a Windows machine to look after itself for so long.

Linux Mint doesn't quite do everything Windows does, but you just don't need to worry about it, which is, as they say, a refreshing change.
