E-on/ MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015 - Stay or wait?

I have a question for the E.ON representative, if Malc is still around. I am on the MSE Collective Switch like some of the other people on this thread, but my fixed tariff ends on 12 September, i.e. the day before the new MSE Collective Switch.
Is there any way to extend my tariff by a few weeks, to allow me time to check the MSE collective deal before moving onto a new tariff (hopefully still with E.ON)? I see from other posts that there are some terms of the tariff allowing customers to stay on the tariff for up to 20 working days after the end of the fixed period, but does that only apply if a switch has been initiated before 12 September? Or do I need to contact E.ON directly to request the 20 working day tariff extension?
Grateful for any help which can be provided Malc!0 -
LiquidStool wrote: »Hey Malc,
Thanks for your detailed reply. I was unaware of the direct debit manager :-/ I find it useful to just pay the same amount throughout the year, as i said, it limits the nasty surprise come the winter bill.
I'm well within the exit window for the tariff so at least i won't rack up exit fees.
You say that E-On will keep me on the same tariff whilst changing supplier, that's awesome - who do i tell and how?
I've been pleased with the tariff, so if it comes up trumps in the next collective switch, i'll be staying put :-)
Don't worry LiquidStool, once you start the switch, your new supplier will sort everything. They'll contact us to take over the supply and this will kick start price protection. As above, make sure your new supplier applies for the account within the Price Protection window.
Sorry to lose you LiquidStool.

Please be careful how you " improve" your already very good services on line, remember the old saying, "If it ain't broke don't mend it!"
Before joining E-On over 1 year ago I was with the Co-Op energy they also decided to " improve " their systems the result was a complete disaster as many MSE can testify.
Glad you like our website FOREVER21. Totally agree, need to make sure we improve where needed but leave the good stuff alone. This is what the testing I mentioned is all about. It's being done by ordinary advisors like me who have everyday experience of the website. Hope you like what we come up with.

Morning martinhunter61.
I posted a reply to a similar question on a different thread yesterday. It's at the following link.

Afternoon Martin. Do you have a Monthly Direct Debit? If you do, hope my post above to LiquidStool helps.
Not sure what the £35 is based on but if things have changed - usage/prices - since this assessment, it may not be covering your ongoing usage.
Hope this is of interest Martin. Let me know if still not clear. Happy to help.

Hi Malc
The £35 DD is what I was quoted by the Energy Saving Club/ Eon special offer which I signed up to last year (Now coming to an end). This amount was based on real meter readings that I recorded every month.
After a few months Eon told me that my DD was being increased from £35 to £105 per month. This was based on my winter usage being projected across the whole year.
My usage this year is about 12% higher than last year but I've paid on average £54 a month which is 60% more than the quoted charge.Martin0 -

Something doesn't sound right there
You were quoted £35pm as that would have been 1/12 of your anticipated annual cost based on the consumption figurtes you gave
You know seem to accept your consumption figures were incorrect i.e. you actually use 12% more. You should revise your CEC account with the more accurate consumption figures, and that should indicate then what you should be paying per month on average.
A simple calculation would suggest it would be about £39-£40 pm instead (not entirely accurate, but won't be far off)
That would be an average figure over 12 months, and of course as you were originally paying too little, you would have to pay a bit more to repay the shortfall for the months you didn't pay enough (as well as the revised amount)
So based on your own figures, £54 pm on average cannot be correct.
Follow this MSE guide to ensure this is corrected or at least does not happen to you again
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/lower-energy-direct-debits
If you have overpaid by the amount you claim, then your account will be in significant credit which you can request back.
All suppliers have a seasonal profile for consumer consumption, and so it is unlikely any supplier would extraoplolate consumption for a heavy winter month period to cover the whole year on a straight line basis.
Whilst the seasonal usage profiles may vary slightly by supplier, at least one supplier (OVO) does publish theirs online, so you could always use that to argue against any supplier if you really thought they were being unreasonable in using a winter's month consumption and suggesting it would remain constant throughout the year.0 -
In any re-calculations, bear in mind that, while your consumption may have risen by 12%, your Standing Charges will not.
You won't have to request reimbursement of any credit balance on your account at the time of your annual review by E.ON or upon termination of your account. It will be returned to you automatically.0 -
Footguy, my usage figures were correct at the time I joined CEC. Since then I have updated the figures with more real data and the CEC website tells me that I should be paying slightly more than £35. In fact it tells me that on Eons standard tarrif I will be paying £45 which is still lower than the actual CEC rate that I'm currently paying.
I read my meters every month and submit the readings to Eon. Maybe someone has a KW calculator that I can use to calculate roughly the correct amount.Martin0 -

Morning Martin81162.
Our Monthly Direct Debits look to spread the cost of usage as evenly as possible over a full year. The aim is to achieve as near to a zero balance as possible by the annual review. Sometimes things change and, where payments aren't covering usage, a debit balance will build up. At the interim review, this will be included in the ongoing arrangement. This, plus higher usage costs, can lead to a hike in the monthly payments.
I suspect something like that has happened here although going from £35 to £105 a month suggests substantial changes. Have you had a look at our online 'Direct Debit Manager' mentioned earlier in the thread? As you give regular readings and thank you for this, this tool will give you a good indication of what you need to pay to reach a zero balance at the annual review. If necessary, you can use this to alter your payments.
As footyguy says, if you have been paying too much, there'll be a credit balance. This can be refunded straightaway. All we ask is for the account to be billed up to date to the latest readings. At this point, we'll be happy to refund any over payment. Or, as Sosumi mentions, it'll be refunded automatically at the annual review or if you close your account.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction Martin81162. Let me know if I can help further as happy to do so.
