SCS Carpet Fitter Ruins Door - No Response

Options
Long story short

We moved into a new house back in spring and purchased a carpet and sofa from SCS.

Both Items great but the carpet fitter cut the door to accommodate the carpet. He's made an incredible mess of it as you can see biq7a9.jpg

I sent an email complaint about this in May via the Resolver website and received no response. I escalated this to the CEO in August but have received no response.

I sent a final email to the CEO today giving him a week to look towards a resolution before considering going to the Retail Ombudsman.

I'm presuming they use local independent fitters so am wondering if they will try to wiggle out of this suggesting that it's an issue for the fitter? Presumably my contract is with SCS though?

Does this look like something that the retail ombudsman could deal with or would you suggest small claims instead?

Any feedback appreciated

How did you pay for the carpet?
  • My wife paid for it on her credit card

Did that include the fitting or did you pay the fitter on the day?
  • That's a good point - I know we gave some cash to the fitter on the day but not sure if it was the full fitting fee or not.

I will probably have some form of receipt at home in the filing cabinet but don't have it to hand.

Admittedly there's a bit of a gap when the door is closed but I think it's a bit OTT to state that he's ruined your door.

What's the gap like as you open the door, don't forget that the floor maybe not be level so the door has to be able to accommodate any rise as it it opens which is why the gap may look too big when closed. In fact looking at the picture more closely it does seem that your carpet drops away from left to right about half way across which emphasises the gap somewhat.

    Hi Neil.

Firstly I really appreciate your input. I've pasted in the other two photos that I have below. I am at work so can't take further photos to prove the point just now.

Aside from the aesthetic which in fairness isn't so much of an issue with the bottom of a door - the gap itself means that there's
quite a draft that comes through. Not so much a problem in the height of summer but come the winter it will be.

I think it's quite easy to sit on the sidelines and suggest that I'm being OTT but the fact is that I paid SCS nearly £1000 and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that they don't make a mistake of this nature.

The more infuriating part though is that they simply have't responded to my complaint.

Is its just my camera work? :D

Seriously no/. That's the bottom of the door.

The first picture is straight on and the middle picture is from the right hand side looking along the door to the left and the bottom one shows the left side across. On the bottom one I took it at an angle to try and show the difference which might be why it looks weird.

Do you realise that both resolver and the so called " retail ombudsman" are both commercial enterprises, that do the same thing?
